🏈 CFBW: @Forbes: "College Football's Most Valuable Teams: #Texas Longhorns On Top, Notre Dame Falls."

Will be interesting to see how these numbers change after this season numbers are calculated. UGA and Bama will go up due to SEC champ game, Bama will go up due to MNC game, Auburn/Tenn/Arkansas will probably go down due to the season.

1) Texas $133m
2) Michigan $120m
3) Notre Dame $103m
4) LSU $102m
5) UGA $99m
6) Alabama $95m
7) Florida $93m
8) Auburn $85m
9) Tennessee $84m
10) Arkansas $83m

6. Alabama Crimson TideCurrent Value: $95 million
One-Year Change in Value: 3%
Football Revenue: $82 million
Football Profit: $45 million
Conference: SEC
Head Coach: Nick Saban

The Crimson Tide have won two of the last three BCS championships, and the team will contend for yet another national title this January when it faces off against Notre Dame. Alabama also ranks among the biggest supporters of academic programming. The athletic department contributed more than $5 million back to university initiatives last year.

One thing that caught my eye was the way the BCS revenue was split—according to this report.

LSU accounted for 22.6MM for their appearance in the BCSNC, but Alabama only accounted for just over 6MM?

I wonder how that is determined if the payout is supposed to be equal? Is it an established rule in the BCS system that the second team gets a reduced amount?
The 20 most valuable teams are worth an average $86 million with team revenue of $65 million. The SEC dominates the top of the list, as usual. Seven of the top ten teams come from the SEC, led by fourth-ranked LSU, now worth $102 million. Though the Tigers generated less revenue than some of their SEC rivals last season, they made up for it with unrivaled value to their conference. The undefeated Tigers earned the SEC a $22.3 million payout for making last season’s BCS National Championship. Alabama, which defeated LSU in the title game, claimed a much smaller $6.1 million conference payday for being the SEC’s second team in a BCS game.

Looking at those profit and revenue numbers, we need to get our costs under control. At 54% we have the lowest profit margin in the top 10. I wonder what is causing that? First instinct says we have higher coaches’ salaries, but if the other teams haven’t made any stadium improvements lately, it could also be depreciation on the stadium expansion.

I can't value a college football program in dollars and cents.

Is the idea to make more money than the other schools or to have a successful football program?

I'll take success on the field over making a few more bucks any day and I'll take winning Championships over being ranked at the top of some Forbes Magazine's "Most Valuable Teams" list every single time!

Put the money back in the football program and profits be damned!

Let Texas make a few more dollars off of their team's hard work and sweat if that is what they are all about...

At Alabama we are all about our student athletes being successful on and off the field and our football teams winning National Championships!
