SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE POWER RANKINGS
1
2
Texas A&M Aggies
Record: 4-0 (1-0)
The Aggies continue to roll up huge offensive numbers against everyone they play. Arkansas will try to stop that by playing keep away. And kudos to Mike Slive -- the game of the week in the league is an old Southwest Conference matchup being played in Dallas and no one thinks of it as anything except SEC territory.
2
3
Alabama Crimson Tide
Record: 4-0 (1-0)
There has been a outpouring of media love for the Crimson Tide this week, which is guaranteed to work like a blowtorch on Nick Saban's fuse.
3
4
Auburn Tigers
Record: 3-0 (1-0)
The Tigers didn't dazzle in their Thursday night win over K-State, but unlike a lot of people, I didn't think AU was "lucky." Just better.
4
6
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Record: 4-0 (1-0)
MSU avoided one of the great collapses in SEC history but for the first 55 minutes in Baton Rouge, it looked like the Bullies were playoff material.
5
7
Ole Miss Rebels
Record: 3-0 (1-0)
If you could sell Ole Miss for what the Rebel fans think their team is worth right now, you could buy Google and throw in Alibaba with the spare change.
6
4
LSU Tigers
Record: 3-1 (0-1)
The Tigers nearly completed a game-winning Hail Mary in front of an 80-percent empty stadium, which would be crazy anywhere else but would be just another day in Les Miles' Louisiana.
7
12[img alt="" src="https://ct.yimg.com/mr/uploads/885/524108.gif" >Arkansas Razorbacks
Record: 3-1 (0-1)
It is amazing how much Arkansas has improved but it is still tough to find the two SEC wins they will need for bowl eligibility. Hogs have to steal one somewhere and SEC wins aren't as easy to purloin as crab legs.
8
10
Georgia Bulldogs
Record: 3-1 (0-1)
I do not subscribe wholly to the notion that the SEC East is a mess and that all its teams will muddle around and someone will win the division at 8-4. Georgia is way too talented for that and ought to go 11-1 or at worst 10-2 (Auburn is a toss-up game). The problem is a coach who thinks that muddling around at 8-4 is OK.
9
11
South Carolina Gamecocks
Record: 3-1 (2-1)
Steve Spurrier dislikes his own team. This has happened before. Some Spurrier teams respond to it, some don't. Missouri does seem ripe for the picking, though. So either the Gamecocks win or Spurrier melts down, which is a win-win for everyone.
10
12[img alt="" src="https://ct.yimg.com/mr/uploads/885/524119.gif" Tennessee Volunteers
Record: 2-1 (0-0)
The Vols face Florida in a huge SEC showdown if you were put in a blast freezer in 1998.
11
11[img alt="" src="https://ct.yimg.com/mr/uploads/885/524110.gif" >Florida Gators
Record: 2-1 (1-1)
In honor of their offense, the Gators don't move in this week's poll.
12
13
Kentucky Wildcats
Record: 2-1 (0-1)
We know less about Kentucky than any team in the SEC. Their wins are against no one, and the overtime loss at Florida is indecipherable. But surely they beat Vandy, right?
13
8
Missouri Tigers
Record: 2-0 (0-0)
Oh, the ignominy. After weeks of praising Mizzou, the Tigers lose. At home. To Indiana. That was enough to send them to the bottom of the poll -- well, the non-Vanderbilt bottom -- and they will have to work their way back up.
14
14
Vanderbilt Commodores
Record: 1-3 (0-2)
How bad is it when Steve Spurrier gives an epic rant about the awfulness of his team when it just beat yours by two touchdowns?
