It is really amazing how Nick Saban is so good at apparently persuading other coaches to come to Tuscaloosa in lateral moves while also being so good at preventing his own coaches from making those same type moves... of course, it may just be the green that is convincing them, more than Saban, in both cases...

A couple of things I noted about him that both impressed me and told me he'd be a great fit here in Tuscaloosa.

First of all. Did any of you guys catch just how good Miami's running game was last season? In the last half of the season (seven games in this point,) five of those games had rushing yard totals of more than 200.

The running game at Michigan State was just as strong when he was the OL coach there. Interesting enough, when he was the OL coach at Mich. St. the head coach was none other than Bobby Williams who just so happens to coach our tight ends.

That's a pretty strong combination for success fella's...and ladies of course. Two coaches with experience—successful experience in the running game as example—working together coaching our front line on offense? Our dedication to running the ball?

Yah...he'd be a great fit.

Now only if we can get back to running a Pro-Style offense and get out of the Shotgun formation sooo much. :lance:

Nothing against it, and I assume we did it because everybody loaded the box on us this year. However, I would much rather see 2 TE sets, line up under center and hand the ball off with some play action mixed in there. But thats just me ;)

Who has made a lateral move to T-town?

Jeff Stoutland, Chris Rumph.

Neither of those are lateral moves. To the same title, yes. Lateral. Hell no.

Miami, where Stoutland is coming from, is going through a head coaching change. Yah, that program has stability written all over it right now, correct? The Hurricanes are like a ship with no rudder...

Rumph's move from Clemson to Bama lateral?

In the last four years we've won 43 ball games, an SEC title and an NC.

To find that many wins for Clemson you'd have to start counting back in the 2004 season. You'll also have to go back to 1991 for the last conference championship they won...back to 1982 for the last NC.

Miami...a ship drifting in the water.
Clemson...a ship with no engine or sail...maintaining its position but that's it.

Bama?

FWIW, we haven't lined up in a shotgun formation a lot this year.

Pistol? Yes.

Remember, you have to credit that formation and scheme for the success we've seen in our running game.

I see it as lateral by title only!! Miami has some rebuilding to do and who would want to be around something like that, when your boss may not see the end of his first contract. I love Dabo to death, but Clemson is hurting. Best to go somewhere where you can learn from the best and get yourself in the best spot to move up the career ladder as a HC in college or a position coach in the NFL.
