🏈 Can someone tell me about the turf, let's just say at Penn State, in February

Chances are the weather forecast for Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, PSU, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Iowa St, etc... will be very cold, wind whipping about like crazy, snow or sleet and a wind chill that will make a southerner wish he had stayed home. The body does not adapt well going from a cool 45-50 degrees in the south to 25-30 or colder in one of these other places in a matter of hours. It takes days of steady cold weather to adjust to the cold. Agree @planomateo?

People adapt when they go skiing. Those who enjoy the outdoors will manage fine. Those who don't would be miserable.

I imagine the turfs of the Big 10 in February would feel A LOT like the old indoor turf that was in the indoor practice facility when I was at UA. Now I played 2 games in HS at Legion Field and then 2 years as a walk on and experienced the turf of BD and that of the indoor facility. The indoor facility was actually WORSE!!!! They had been in such a hurry with completing it, that they experienced a lot of issues with the roof leaking. That only compounded matters. That turf was truly like painted asphalt and burned the shit out of you when you got tackled!!!!!

As far as sitting in the cold and watching the games, I would equate it to deer hunting. Bundle up!!!

The NFL only plays a handful of games from January on. Those games are based on who is in the playoffs. The Super Bowl is either indoors or in a moderate temperature city like San Francisco.

Well...they play near every weekend during January....
Full weekend in jan plus 16 or so playoff games....
2014 super bowl was in New Jersey...dont know why...far from notmal moderate
And dec can be as cold...or near...and its a full slate of game everyweek
Especially places like denver...buffalo....New England...New Jersey...etc...
So....its cold ....so what...its hot in Florida, USCe, Auburn....earth scorching hot...etc in sept and early oct....
Granted...the shift from artificial turf to natural grass has help on field conditions.. @UAgrad93 ....but....
Players n fans have adapted....as they would to cold....see Ice Bowl of 60s....
Snow in Cleveland...New England....etc
Rain...sleet....etc

I don't want to hear about how tough it was to have an indoor facility. Try having practice outdoors 100% of the time. Rain, cold, tornadoes, heat. The old artificial turf practice field was the worst with the end zones being coarse sandpaper. I still have scars from turf burns. BDS was a luxury because it had padding underneath.

Do people wear snow bibs to football games? I would imagine if the seating is as tight as it is in Bryant-Denny, you'd feel miserable with puffy attire on when it's 25 degrees. Warm, but miserable.

I have been to high school games in Ohio in October, November and early December with snow. The secret is to layer up once you get to the stadium. Keeping the hands and feet warm is the key. I always have a larger pair of gloves to go over a thin pair and change to two pairs of socks. Warm, but miserable as you said.
