šŸˆ Can Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze's finesse style of offense work in the SEC? (links)

Kind of like Malzahn's offense. Think Aubies in 2009. The no huddle, multiple sets, a lot of misdirection. It requires the defense to play with a lot of discipline. OM has a lot of speed at RB, so unless the defense stays sound they are quite capable of popping big plays.

I don't think it wins consistently in the SEC. Defenses see it on film, practice against it. The quick pace puts your own defense right back on the field.

I do think having a QB like Blake Sims around helps us to prepare for this type of spread.

Very good test for the secondary and how the defenses communicates.

Not worried here, Saban has had success with these type of offenses in the past.

Hoping Bryant-Denny gets up for this game and becomes the x-factor, the noise will help by making it difficult for communicate for the offense

I remember people asking this exact question about Urban Meyer's offense when he first showed up at Florida. It took Urban a few years, but I'd say he did just fine.

My answer? Sure it can...just not at a school like Ole Miss. Ole Miss is a losing program, plain and simple.

Now, I don't know enough about Freeze yet to say whether or not he's a good coach or not, but one thing's for sure...if he wants to have any sort of success in the SEC he better build his defense just as much if not more than his offense.

These offenses are always dangerous for the obvious reasons already said, but they are also dangerous for their own team. There's a reason that the majority of spread teams have terrible defenses (in terms of numbers/points). Yes part of it is that alot of these teams recruit mostly offense and tend to ignore the defense some but also the amount of time the D is going to be on the field. How many long, methodical drives do you see from a spread? They're usually VERY short drives for TDs (short in terms of plays or time) or a 3 and out. That puts a ton of pressure on the D and ends up killing them.
