🏈 ...can Alabama still reach the College Football Playoff and win a national championship?"I think it's over for 'Bama," says David Pollack

Its not impossible but its going to be difficult. Will we miss Waddle? Absolutely! Bolden stepped up big time and made plays and I hope he continues to make them. I am a little more concerned with other areas. Our punting game is not good right now. IMO, we do not have a dominant defensive lineman that can get to the QB on a consistent basis to disrupt the timing of a route, pressure the QB in a bad throw, get a big sack, etc..., our LB get put on an island in man coverage and cannot cover a RB or slot receiver.

Agree with @UAgrad93 we do not have Waddle and will not have Waddle. Next man up.

This is NOT like 2005 when Prothro went down. He seams to think it is. You guys remember how awful our offense was the rest of that year. Gosh. Felt like we had more FGs than TDs the rest of the year. Anemic would be too charitable for that offense. Thank goodness for our D that kept us winning some games.

that wax definitely the furniture salesman and HC. Protho just Bailed their asses out

peple funny how they get unzipped cause what a talking head says.

I get it, and I almost avoided replying altogether so as not to be lumped into that... but Pollack doesn't strike me as a stirrer like many of his kind who chum the waters. I think he's legitimately serious, which is equally sad but for different reasons.

I zipped through the article in about 8 seconds so I may have missed it, but did David inform us who is able to still win the national championship?
He didn't mention who could win it. I still think he is overblowing this injury though. I still say our chances of a Natty will depend on whether our defense can get some key stops and can they not blow an assignment in the secondary. I think our offense is still dynamic without Waddle, we will just have to find someone else or others to pick up the slack in his absence. Will it be Bolden by himself, likely not, but it could mean a few more touches dished out to Forristall or Billingsley or one of the freshmen WRs to step in with a few big catches.

I don't mind Pollack. He says a lot of what he's thinking while not being politically correct, so I respect that. In this instance he is clearly wrong. Anyone will tell you that Alabama will just plug in the next four or five star and not miss a beat. Like others have mentioned, we lost Waddle on the first play of the game, but the offense still almost hit 600 yards after taking the foot off the pedal in the third quarter. I will say though, I don't think we will win the National Championship this year. Before the season, I would have put $1M on it. After seeing the lack of pressure on defense and our ability to allow drives, I simply don't feel we have what it takes to win it all. I don't see that edge or even that Alpha step up like in past seasons. I hope I'm wrong and have this come back and bite me, but it just doesn't have that feel yet from me. Of course, Clemson hasn't played anyone, and Ohio State is one game into their season. It's those three teams, and hopefully we're the ones that pull it out, but me saying this is not because Waddle is gone, it's more based on our defense.

The D needs to improve enough to compensate for the loss in offensive productivity. That is the area that if we do not improve will eventually cost us the NC and I would have said that before Waddle got hurt.

We all agree you can't replace Waddle but an interesting point with regards to the timing of the injury. Since it is midway through the season it gives Bama time to adjust to Waddle not being out there. Much better in my opinion than if it happened in the last game of the year.

I believe we have the talent in our receiver corps to take up the slack. Slade Bolden looked fairly good for someone with little experience. Metchie is looking great. If we don't win the National Championship, it will not be because of the loss of Waddle. It will be because of a porous defense. Clemson has Jake Venables, and he is an outstanding DC. The jury is still out on our DC, Golden.

As much as I love Waddle, he isn't the end all be all to our offense. D.Smith and Menchie are key players along with Harris. Losing Waddle has some impact, but it's not as HUGE as people are saying. It's not the offensive side of the ball that we have an issue with, even without Waddle. What we have an issue is on Defense on QB pressure and run defense.

I think we could win a NCG with our offense for sure... but it appears to be a shoot out type of game vs a Clemson type of team. A lot will have to do with how things shake out. We'd need to win the SECCG first and then see what seeding we end up with and who we'd play. There are way to many variables to look at...heck, we could have even more injuries before years end as could any of the other teams... especially with Covid still being around.

Just Win the next game... and move on. The rest will take care of itself.
