🏀 Can Alabama be a basketball school? Or has it done it already?

Oats has pushed us to new heights, but UA already had a fairly rich Basketball tradition.
Yeah a lot of people just remembered the last 20 years pre Oats but before that they were pretty good. Wimp won a lot of games. CM Netwon did as well. Not sure if it is the case now but at one time they were the 2nd winningest basketball program in the SEC behind UK.

Will never be a basketball school, but Oats has destroyed the narrative that you can't really win at Alabama. Wimp had a ton of success but couldn't get over the hump. CM Newton had arguably the greatest team on campus until Oats arrived but got horribly seeded in the same bracket as '76 Indiana.

Just shows making the right coaching hire is everything. Alabama can be elite in basketball.

To answer the question, yes we can be a basketball school. We have to continue to win consistently and win a national championship to be in that elite class. When I think blue bloods in college basketball over time Alabama does not come into my mind. Hopefully, that will change.
