I just read on al.com that Caleb was medically disqualified after Sprin practice. Saban was asked today and he responded that it was a medical issue and that it happened so long ago that he simply forgot to mention it during the first presser of the fall.

But let's be real here. He had good D1 offers on the table and chose to come here. He was considered a "preferred walk-on" meaning "there's one in the future if all goes well."
I'm not saying it's the case, but I am saying I can easily see the roster being managed to the degree the staff knew Caleb was coming off the 85 when scholly's are renewed and that would free up a scholly after the fall semester.
Boom. There's Del Rio's scholarship opening...which in the end comes from Caleb's.
And by the way. It's far from "off track from this threads' origin" when the title is talking about NCAA regulated numbers and Del Rio comes into play there.
Let me put it another way.
Remember the QB injuries we went through in 2004 where we were starting our third stringer with Pennington in the middle of our SEC schedule?
With AJ leaving at the end of fall...let's get him on paper as soon as we can.
