Time for my annual commercial for one big tournament that includes everyone.

The team that we played last night might have gone through an SEC schedule and not won a game, and they were their league's regular season champions.

There are 320 teams playing D-1 basketball (give or take a few).

Seeed the 320 teams, and the bottom 128 play "play in" games to get the field to 256. The first set of Thursday through Sunday games gets the field to 64, and it proceeds from there as it does now.

Do away with the NIT and the conference tournament and it would all be done in no more time than it takes now,

I only watched the first half, and I was not very impressed with Stanford. Maryland is big and well coached, but they were a middle of the pack ACC team in a year when the ACC was mediocre. I think we advance to New York. Winning the NIT is not the be all and end all for us, but it does give us, still loaded with underclassmen, the opportunity to keep playing. If we don't tank we could be cutting down the nets in NY.

I love the tourney idea, but it makes way too much sense to gain any traction.

This Bama team, at times, I think is so underachieving. At times. We've talked before about this, PJ. Their play on occasion doesn't make any sense. Some of it comes down to a big man. Maybe part of it is philosophy, because when they look more like they're simply playing the game and having fun they can shoot the ball with anyone.

At any rate, I'm with you. They could win the NIT. Get by UT, this time with them fresh. I think Maryland is a challenge.

I think they have a real good shot at winning it, if they play their cards right. It's like they show flashes of brilliance than lose it all ..

I just still can't get over the Florida game. Huge disappointment.

As much as I hate to say it, I am kind of curious/excited to see Ole Miss in the mix. They are certainly a fun team to watch.

I wonder how many people will show up to this one? I'm thinking well under 5000. Horrible showing from our fans last night. I know the same excitement isn't there like it was last year and the year before, but we need to show that we care about our basketball team....even in the down years...

I have Wisconsin blowing out Ole Miss.

To me it looks like when they slow down and try to run a set offense is when they start going on those long scoring draughts. When they just come down the court and play ball/wing it/add lib they seem to do a lot better.

100% agree. I think UA got screwed. For a majority of the season (I believe), we were ranked 2nd in the SEC. And we managed to hang with Florida, and had some good wins. UA deserved to be in more than UK.

don't agree with that at all, both UK and Bama have some really bad L's.

Bama...
8-5 OOC - some not to good L's

Home games vs SEC, 9-0
Road games vs SEC, 3-6 (ugly loss to Auburn, then losing to Vandy and LSU)

0-2 against Florida (including SEC tournament) - double digit leads in both games
2-1 against Tenn (including SEC tournament)
0-1 against Mizzou
0-1 against Ole Miss

The ESPN talking heads were saying that "who you lost to" was a factor. No doubt that was true in our case. We lost to Auburn (there), Tulane, Mercer, Dayton, all at home. Our best win was against Villanova in a neutral site game. We came very close to winning at Tennessee and at LSU, and I think that had we closed the deal on either of those we would be dancing.

Jimmy Dykes thought Tennessee should be dancing, and it is hard to disagree. Those two losses to Georgia were bad, but who else beat Florida, Kentucky and Missouri. The Vols played a tough non conference schedule, and barely lost to a Georgetown team who has a decent shot at winning it all. Their weakness is that their big three players have to be on the court all the time. As you saw in the SEC tourney, Stokes, especially, wore out from playing on back to back days.

I also agree that we seem to play better basketball when we just go with the flow of the game instead of trying to slow it down and work the clock. Randolph was huge last night and needs to keep up his attacking style of play on the offensive end.

The good thing about the NIT is that it does allow our very young team to get more practice time and play in game situations. Now we just have to win them one at a time and advance.

Ill watch every game that bama plays in the nit.....and then be constantly disappointed that it looks like there are more fans showing up to a regular season softball game than a post season (even NIT) basketball game. Ive never seen such a poor turnout or home crowd showing before. Totally pathetic

It is bad when even the student section cannot show up, but the boogs over Lee County show up every game despite being last place. UA staff needs to promote the basketball program a little better and Grant needs to get this team winning so we can get back to the environment we know Coleman can be.
