I got a feeling that "Blunt" Calloway might become the best conditioned redshirt ever, or he could transfer if he wishes to avoid being held accountable. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to this self-inflicted misfortune, as apparently his talent exceeds his maturity. For anyone who doesn't think attitude is important just contrast where Callaway is compared to Sunseri. Five star redshirt vs. three star special teamer. I didn't see that coming.

I have to agree with Porter. I'm glad you guys aren't judge and jury. Let me ask you guys this. How many of you smoked dope at 17, 18 years old? Yes it is a little different because none of us are D1 athletes and have our lives viewed with a magnifying glass inside of a fish bowl. But the only difference between Brent Calloway and me at 19 years old, was the fact that he got caught. I don't like it anymore than the rest of you, but remember this kid has a guardian, and hasn't had a father for several years. Who knows how much right and wrong he knows? I'm willing to reserve judgement. Hopefully he will get his crap together before it is too late.

I find it funny you mention having some class earlier...just saying.

was it a boneheaded move, sure, but I honestly don't have any ill will towards him for doing this, he'll figure it out one way or the other - meaning get in line or stand in another line (as in another teams line).

LMAO at some of these comments. The kid smoked a little weed. He's not being tried for murder. He didn't get caught with Meth. Hoos, maybe you didn't smoke any weed growing up, or never broke the law, which is great, but you're probably in the minority of young people growing up. Most young people get in to some mischief at one point or another.

Not saying Brent's actions are ok, but he'll pay his time, accept his punishment, or he'll be gone. We've been through this before. Take a look at Robby Green.

Point being, I guarantee Brent is not the only player on the team that smokes weed...far from it. He just got caught. Who knows, this could be a turning point in this guys' life...we have no clue what's going through his mind.

I agree with those saying he should not be booted and should be allowed a growing up opportunity through this situation.

I agree in that he should not be kicked off the team. Was it a boneheaded move on his part? Certainly. Saban preaches from day one about 'teaching' kids the values of life. Not just football but preparing them for a better future whether it's going to the pro's or getting their degree and having a good paying job like the rest of us. Nick's Kids comes to mind in reading their mission statement. He may look at this as an opportunity to teach a young man a lesson in life, not just football consequences. If Brent stays on the team you best believe he will be punished as the staff seems fit.

Hoos4Tide, you call a moron one more time and you will find another board to post on. It is an over-reaction by everyone to throw the kid under the bus. This past Thursday night Coach Saban himself made the very statement, more or less, that I stated. We assume kids know everything right from wrong and how to do everything. They don't. Or they have been catered to because they were an athlete, and felt that they can do anything they want because it has always been overlooked. That is no longer the case. I would be willing to bet that we all have had a screw up that we had a second chance to make up for. This kid is within that "teachable" moment. The old addage 3 strikes and your out. While not everything in life is that way, a lot of folks do get second chances.

I spoke with one of David Palmers old team mates (sales rep) this past week and we were discussing Coach Stallings suspending him after his DUI. Stallings contemplated kicking Palmer off the team. Stallings consulted all of the seniors on the team along with all of the coaches on staff. We all know that Palmer went on to play in the NFL for 8 or so year, and had a decent career. We all know what he did for the Tide, what would have happened had he not be given the second chance to redeem himself? BTW drinking and driving is illegal too.

To follow up on what Porter is talking about and just to tell a story kind of related to this - A good buddy of mine played football at Tennessee for the last couple years under Fulmer. This is a guy who was not heavily recruited, but Fulmer gave him a chance. He worked his butt off and earned a starting spot on the defense for about 2-1/2 years. Comes from a very nice family, grew up in a good area, and is pretty much a good all around guy.

Any way, he tells me a story of him getting randomly drug-tested from time to time. Never failed one for his first few years. One night he ends up out at the bars, going back to a another party, and smoking some weed. He didn't do this often, and knew it was a bad idea at the time, but was living for the moment. Sure enough, in the next few days he receives one of those random drug tests. And obviously failed with flying colors.

The way he tells the story is that the coach that was administering the drug tests pulled him to the side and asked if he knew that he had failed the test. To which he replied that he had a feeling that he would and explained what had happened. He said he was worried he was going to get kicked off the team, his parents would find out, you know, the whole nine yards. The coach responds by saying "this is your first failed test, right? Oh, ok, well get the hell out here." Ya know, just to make a point about not making this a habit.

Now, this is NOT a story I am telling to show that UT runs a dirty program. I guarantee this goes on at just about every single college program in the nation. Heck, can you imagine the PAC-12 football programs?

I would also like to point out, that this guy was a starter at the time of failed test.

No, I'm not going to respond to every single post here slamming me for my two posts earlier, but for one, I mention having class etc. because smoking weed, getting arrested, doing stupid stuff is something that I couldn't be more mad at. I hate losing but sometimes the team on the other side of the field is better than you and you can't help them scoring more points than you do, but what you can control is what is on your person and what you are doing at any given moment. And doing stupid stuff as a freshman who does not play one bit is totally unacceptable in my view. For the purposes of this post I could care less if smoking is bad for you or not, moral or not, whatever you want to say, it's illegal and I don't want a guy who has no importance on our team whatsoever to be the mugshot that everyone talks about. And regarding everyone getting mad at me for blasting the "everyone's doin' it man" argument-- I still contend that's stupid, there are a lot of people that drink alcohol under 21 but guess what? If the police catch you for that you're not going to be able to just look at him (or her) and say "but everyone does it!" Now, for the fact that you say "everyone does wrong stuff, it's just who gets caught," well yes, everyone does wrong things but not everyone gets caught. Okay? Are there not ways to keep yourself from getting caught? Going 10 over on a dusty backroad is a whole lot less stupid than going 10 over on the Beltway simply b/c you're much more likely to get caught!

And as for I think it was Plano implying that I'm a hypocrite b/c I speak without class but expect athletes playing for the team I root for to act with class-- well... I don't play for the team do I? Now that may sound stupid but like that's the point, you represent something more than yourself as a football player at Alabama whereas I, haha, represent a nickname on Rolltidebama.com when I post here. If I knew that I was representing something more than my M.O. to people I do not know I would pretty assuredly not do something illegal...

Sorry for the length of this post, but come on, I feel like Plano having stuff thrown at me from all directions. If this doesn't make sense to you, tough luck, I'm right and that's why Brent is in trouble with the team and yeah, this will be my last post on this topic, enjoy it. Pick it apart... GO!
