My favorite month for bass in LA is February, water temp about 52. Slow rolling spinnerbaits will catch those big prespawn girls.

The fall here brings in 20+" easily. Spring is "finding them" Fall is "raping" them.

Catch a lot of 2 to 3lbers in fall on the alabama river but catch more big ones in spring.

Seems to be a kayak tournament vs bass boat tournament thing.
Meal for me is usually crappie or catfish from fresh water. Occasionally I'll eat bass, usually keep the 12 to 15 inch ones.

Prefer saltwater fish like grouper for a sandwich. Just a different texture.

Two of my Dad's largest catches were in March, same farm pond 45 minutes or so south of Bham. One 10-2, another 11 even. Both were caught on the yellow/black Shyster and a light rig with six pound test.

The old Bham News "Big Fish Club" required a ten pounder for recognition. I found one of his old patches cleaning out the other day. First layer of dirt came out okay, but the rust stains may prove difficult.

Since I was dropping by to take my Mom to a PT appointment, here’s the crappie and bass he thought enough to have mounted, along with a small portion of his tourney recognition (all crappie).

I know I’ve said this before, but my favorite fishing to do (and it really isn’t too close) is bream fishing at Guntersville. Followed by catfish pond fishing and deep sea fishing. As you can tell, I don’t have much patience (nor am I a master angler) so I like to catch a lot as quick (and as easy) as possible.

As you can tell, I don’t have much patience (nor am I a master angler) so I like to catch a lot as quick (and as easy) as possible.

I'm sneezing. Horribly. But I know where I can hit a bass sandwich right now.

How i spent most of my summers from 10 to 14 or so.

I went wading down a couple of nice rock bottom creeks with my Dad, caught redeye and rock bass - both just gorgeous - along with shellcrackers and bluegill. One of my favorite fishing memories is my Dad catching a rock bass, telling me, "rock bass are the greediest fish around, even with a sore lip". He released it, it returned to the same rock overhang it was lurking, and my Dad dropped it there again, and caught it again.

I guess this is the full moon for bluegill at Guntersville, or was it last month?

In my younger days I did a lot of bream fishing. I always love to get a small flat bottom boat and fish on an old creek. I had an unusual rig that I called a poor mans fly rod. Had an open face reel and would tie a float and about 12" below that had a bream popper and then about another 8" had metal beetle over a hook. I can't even find those beetles any longer. With that setup the popper would ride on top and the beetle as you popped it would go up and down. Most of the time the beetle is what the bream would hit but at other times they would hit the popper or on rare occasion they would hit both and you would catch two at once. Great times!!!!

Getting back to doing more fishing needs to be in my retirement plan in a few years.
