According to the Huntsville paper he may redshirt this next season.

With our currrent depth at linebacker and Johns' lack of game experience Saban and company probably feel the wisest move would be to let him take a year off to learn. Stay tuned to see how things pan out.

Johns Redshirting?

I don't see it. Simply don't see a reason for it as well. He's had a few knee problems this spring but he's also talked about how he's going to be involved in special teams this upcoming season.

Gattis, IMO, is throwing something out there again (nothing new) that he has little to base it on other than a question he asked JJ during the interviews. Interestingly enough, did you notice JJ said he and Saban hadn't discussed that move?

Regardless is this has any legs, if JJ wants a shot at the NFL, there would be worse things for him to do. With all that raw talent he has, under ideal circumstances, a year to study LB would be a benefit to him.

The odds aren't very good that this type of decision would happen, but I don't think it would be a bad idea for JJ.

I'd be shocked beyond belief if he redshirted. If he did, IMO, it would not help him in terms of seeing more playing time, and it would also free up one less scholarship for what will be an already smaller than normal signing class next year.

Sorry to be off topic, but did anyone see JJ outside the team busses? He signed my A-Day program :P but he didn't stay for long because he had to get an interview. He was very polite and apologized for not being able to sign more. I even got a handshake before he ran off. Curious if anyone was in the area and saw him?

I think this story is totally bogus. I really don't think Saban thinks like that. He wants to put the best athletes on the field. JJ is one of the better athletes. According to Sabans style, he recruits to play the boys now. I think they will find a position that suits his capibility. It may be somewhere else on offense... defense. By the way, we all know his play making on special teams is always outstanding.

He would get lost in depth with all the LB talent coming in this fall. I think he needs to be studying up on the defense a lot this summer. He has plenty of time to learn the schemes, its the experience he will be lacking. It's now or never for JJ, let's hope its more on the now.

If JJ was going to redshirt to learn a new position, last year would have been the time to do it. He then could have come back and play 2 years at the LB spot.
Now, it's just to late IMO.
