🏈 Brain Surgery?

Brothers and Sisters,

I haven't been online hardly at all this week because of a situation that has developed since the Vile game. Monday I noticed a flashing multi-colored ball appearing in my vision. It was very random and would go away and return for varying lengths of time. 45 years ago, while in my mid teens, I might have thought it was the result of something I was taking for recreational use but since those days are long gone, I thought I might ought to get this checked out. After seeing several doctors / specialists and having a MRI done it was determined I have a, in layman terms, blood vessel in the back part of my brain that is not delivering blood to my eyes. I'm headed to a nero surgeon in Birmingham this morning to be checked out by the surgeon. After that research and more test we'll determine a plan of action to try and correct the problem. Over the phone conversations have detailed three different avenues of surgery possible.

So I may be absent for a while as my vision comes and goes. Early morning seems to be better and I took that opportunity to let you know and to ask for your thoughts and prayers for the next few days.

Thanks Roll Tide.

Wayne

Brothers and Sisters,

It's been a trying time but I'm much better. They have diagnosed my problem as a "cavernoma" or a mangled set of blood vessels that resemble a blackberry or rasberry in my brain. In my case it is diverting the blood from the part of the brain that controls my sight.

I've seen a neuro-surgeon in Birmingham and after 4 different MRAs and a CAT Scan of what little brain they could find, they determined the cavernoma was the source of my problems. Most of the time, 60% of the time in fact, it causes seizures but fortunately I haven't had any yet. I have had blurred vision, nausea, and severe headaches, all of which have subsided now. I'm very thankful for that. Today is the first day I have been released to read, watch TV or use the computer so I took this opportunity to let you know how it's going.

I have been symptom free for 4 days now and the neuro-surgeon told me today that sometimes the cavernomas will repair themselves but usually only temporarily. He has advised me to have it repaired eventhough my symptoms have disappeared. He has recommended a non-invasive surgery using pinpoint radiation with what he calls a "cyberknife". The cyberknife people will call me to set up a consultation for next week, hopefully, and then the actual procedure will take 30 to 90 minutes. I'll go home the same day and have followup MRIs and MRAs annually to check the cavernoma or if symptoms return.

They have treated almost 6000 people in the clinic with cavernomas in their brain or spinal cords with outstanding success. 98.9% of patients say they would have the procedure again. That of course is propaganda from their website. I wonder.....

So that's where I'm at. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. I'll be back in touch asap. Roll Tide.

I am on my phone but I will move it tomorrow when I get to my computer!

Wayne, I am happy to hear you are feeling better. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, and hoping Alabama crushes LSU in your honor! Roll tide and get well!

Damn Wayne, I wish you would have called and let me know...

I actually thought about that @TerryP but things started happening so quickly that it soon was beyond my control. My vision got so bad so quick I couldn't even read until Tuesday of this week but the doctors didn't want me trying to focus until yesterday. That has been tough. But the silver lining is it happened during a bye week so I didn't miss a Bama game.

I still have some vision problems. Everything now has the texture of a basketball as I see it and a red tinge. Which is a hell of a lot better than having an orange tinge on everything.

I really appreciate everyone's concern, thoughts and prayers. It's gonna be all right.

I'd recommend adding a voice dialer to your phone but it probably wouldn't recognize your Southern drawl. OH, how I wish I could blame the damn Yankees...but, I guess I'll have to blame the Chinese.

I'm no doctor, but I can correct your self-diagnosis here...
