🏀 Bracketology 2020-21 season.- Selection Sunday (Bama to face Iona)

Maybe I am missing something but I do not see a #1 seed. I have enjoyed this team and think they are a good team but I have a perception of a #1 seed that I guess is skewed and biased.

It's a fluid situation as of today looking at the season results in Lunardi's opinion if the dance were to start today he feels the committee would have us as the last 1 seed. Maybe you should try being a little more optimistic ;)

I am here as part of the UA beaten fan trauma therapy group. Our aim is to help those so severely scarred by former expectations and results that they cannot experience true happiness in their new season. It is sometimes a long painful process but we have a very high success rate with very low rate of recidivism. Please just know that we are here for you.

I need all the help I can get. Bama basketball for the last 20 years has been painful :).

If Kentucky was 10-0 in SEC play would you say the same?

Oklahoma won, what, four Top 10 games in a row, same record as us, and is a 4 seed? Maybe their schedule isn't great outside of those four, but still Top 10 victories. How many do we have? One?

As I said before, I just can't see us as a #1 seed. During a four-five game stretch we could have played with anyone, but the first ten games and last four I have a hard time believing we could hang with a true Top 5 team. Gonzaga will win it all. Baylor is a Final 4 team, Michigan only has one loss while playing a decent schedule in a decent conference. Iowa has a dominant big man. Can we hang with any of those teams?

No offense, I take fellow Alabama fans opinions on basketball about as seriously if they were commenting on Lacrosse. They are certainly entitled to their opinion but its not from an informed perspective.

I don't think some of y'all realize what a special team and season this has been. Do yourself and read some of the national pundits opinions on this team, the ones that follow the game for a living. They have no reason to interject hyperbole or fandom when it comes to an Alabama team that is not a blueblood of roundball. This team is legit and if you can't see that, please take time to sit back and enjoy how they play the game. This team is special.

At least we are not sweating the bubble.
This I definitely agree and align with. Would much rather be having this argument.

@bamafan4ever I have been Bama basketball fan since the 70's so I am somewhat informed at least about bama basketball's history. Watched the Wimp teams play with some NBA talent. Numerous times I watched them win the SEC basketball conference championship. Those teams played hard nosed defense and team basketball. His teams never made it past the Sweet 16.

The one elite 8 team under Gottfried was a special team that was playing well at the right time. To me this team is about like some of those Wimp teams. I probably can't point to the data to back that up but that is how it feels to me. The last 20 years of basketball has just been hard to watch. So yeah I am a little bit gun shy. I am enjoying this season and will do so as long as I can. I have actually been very pleased at the consistency of the defense. I think that has honestly been what has help them stay undefeated in conference play. If they get the offense back to knocking down shots more consistently while the D is playing the way it is then you are looking at a high seeded team from my perspective. With all the injuries it has also been a testament to the depth of the team since they have kept winning. If/when they get healthy who knows? I am about to talk myself in to believing they do deserve a high seed :).

Roll Tide Gentlemen. Go on the road with an attitude and take down Mizzou. That is what a top seed should do!!!!

@mando I have been following only a little longer (since CM Newton) then! :) I guess I don't understand how anyone could be second-guessing this team that understands the game of basketball. The fact is, the offense has gone away some with respect to the 3-point shots, no doubt. There was no way they were going to maintain that blistering pace they played with in Baton Rouge. For that matter, they have been missing some easy lay ups in a handful of games as well. Despite that and injuries, they find other ways to win. That's impressive! I will continue to believe in this team until I see the effort level fall off and I just simply don't see that happening ~ and ~ if they can get hot offensively and peak again at the right time, the sky is the limit for this team, especially when we get Bruener and Jones healthy again. Just my .02

I get it. Hard for me to go from bubble/NIT type discussions for years to a #1 seed. That to me says you are a national champion contender. Never seen that at Bama. If they get healthy and get a little more crisp on offense maybe its possible but It would be in unchartered territory for Bama basketball. It is not that I do not want them to be there but still curious if Oats has the horses and culture to pull that off in his second year.

I know it does not sound like it but I am enjoying watching this team :). Night and day from last year and years past.

Top ten wins is your personal line of demarcation. It doesn't apply to how teams are ranked, much less seeded, when it comes to the basketball committee.

Bama is 5-1 against Q1 teams, OU if 4-5. It's not about their schedule, it's also taking account to whom they've lost games against.

Bama is 10-3 versus Q1 and Q2. OU is 5-5.

10-3> 5-5. Easy to see that in my view.

Yes, because out of the teams you've mentioned how many play the same style?

I'm not talking about the quadrant. I'm talking against top tier opponents. I don't care if you can beat the #35 team or last team in the Q1, whichever number that is. I want to know that you can hang with the teams that are there in the end, which more than likely are going to be a front end Q1 team. Oklahoma lost to Baylor, Kansas, Texas Tech twice, and Xavier. I see one bad loss there, to Xavier. So sure, penalize them for Q1 losses for your argument, but I'd rather see those losses, and close one at that than to ones to Western Kentucky, Stanford, and Clemson. That's just me though.

I was simply making a point that Oklahoma won the head to head, we are in the midst of a shooting drought, and they have beat more Top 10 teams than us, so that's why I have a hard time considering us a #1 seed. That would insinuate that we are one of the best four teams in the country and I cannot deduce that from what I am seeing on the court. I just don't see a Top 4 team right this second. When we beat Tennessee, LSU the first time, and Kentucky the first time, yes. When we lost to Oklahoma, pressed by Mississippi State, and shot cold against LSU and Kentucky the second time, no.

I'm not talking about their style of play, I'm simply speaking to their dominance. They have been dominant over just about everyone. Not just a small stretch, but dominant all year long.

I say every bit of this with the proof I have been high on this team all year long and definitely think they have a chance to go deep. Go back at my posts and you'll see that. I'm just being honest about receiving a #1 seed. I hope we get it and push deep into a good bracket, but we have a ways to go before I feel we earn it. If we can play well today I'll feel a ton better. Getting Auburn again with Cooper having some experience will be a test as well because although other top tier teams may not have one superstar to his ability, they have a team to the level of just below his abilities and we need to show we can solve that.
