I could be wrong, but I suspect USC officials aren't going to sit on their hands for very long. It may be that nothing is officially announced until later, maybe even after the season. It wouldn't surprise me at all if several candidates had already been contacted to measure interest.

Assistants don't want to interview behind the back of the HC because you never know when you'll be back on the market and need a job. With most schools getting into the conference portion of their schedule, the HC needs everyone focused on their role. As CNS says, all this external clutter just distracts from where they need to focus.

I'm confident in my response. Not saying you're wrong, but you're not right. Let's see how it plays out.

Tanner said over the weekend that he's not limiting the search to anyone: which would include assistant coaches.

As of yesterday afternoon they were still looking at search committee members and firms.

IF there has been any contact, it would be something like the coach's agent contacting an underling in the athletic department to express interest.
