| RECRUIT Bobby's Recruiting Updates Thread: The Bama Blitz

The notion Byers was going to have to be in another school for two years before he could look at a D1 program. I know this was talked about before...it's confusing why it came up again with some wondering why he isn't required to go to JUCO for two years.

Hence:
I'm fairly positive during his recruitment we discussed how similar his situation was with the one Zo Washington had several years back. It falls back to the rule changes of '15 (I want to say it was '15) where the NCAA rules committee tweaked the "partial qualifier" status of players. It's a difference in a class, or two, versus needing several credit hours to qualify.
That said, the SEC does have different entrance requirements than those that are required by the NCAA (as well as other conferences.)

all of this seems just a discussion- Byers to Mizzou -

Coach Saban kept close contact on Byers and I recall a late visit to his high school in Fayetteville to keep up with his academic progress. I really can't believe Bama didn't know how close he was to qualify. But in this class, there isn't a lot of fat and as Park's confirms, we are maxed out for 17.

Why Arkansas didn't show more love for this kid in their backyard is way beyond my understanding of how Bielema is doing business.

They did. We did.

I think you've forgotten parts of his story or maybe just missed it considering when it was published. On page one of this thread I mentioned he didn't have to complete two years of JUCO and I was confused on where the notion he did came from. He only had to complete 24 hours, not two years. He was as close to what we know as a "partial qualifier" if there ever was a case (last example being Zo that I could recall.)

From a link on page one this was quoted.

An Under Armour All-America Game selection, Byers said he is on the track to potentially be a late qualifier, something that could accelerate the potential return process after at least two junior college semesters. That would put him back on the market as a January 2018 enrollee with at least three years of of playing eligibility remaining at the collegiate level.

Byers didn't have a high enough score on his ACT and there were issues about his next opportunity to take the test. He was interviewed in January and that's when he confirmed it was a test score issue.

I'll look it up in a few is someone doesn't get to it before I do ... if you have the time, look up SEC Country (or the AJC.com site) and look for an article a few days before signing day about Byers. Please don't hold me to this, but I want to say it was an article written by Kirschner (or however you spell his last name; Charlie K____?)

If he got his test score, he doesn't have to spend a minute at a junior college. Which is the case here?

I believe the timing is what you're missing here.

He didn't have the score in January. There wasn't another test opportunity until February and that test result wouldn't be released until late February or early March. He could not have signed anywhere except a JUCO school (or DII, DIII program.)

Yes I get that. But he will be at Mizzu this fall now right?

Unless he changes his mind, again. As of Wednesday night he was scheduled to visit Georgia this weekend for their spring game. I won't put anything out of the range of possibilities with some of the stuff Kirby has been pulling as of late.

They've been taking our best in basketball for years and was trying to put their paws on John Petty. Anytime we can return the favor in football with a Harris, or Wills, or Alexander seems fair enough.
