The Duke soccer team case has nothing to do with this. It's like comparing it to the Notre Dame football case where the accuser committed suicide when no one believed her. They are simply different cases and this could go either way.
i will say this, however; for every "fake" rape charge, there are thousands of real ones. They must all be taken seriously.
Also, if the reported evidence of bruises on her body is correct, that could be proof of assault. But we shall see.
We don't know all the facts so I'm trying not to take sides but it seems pretty unfair to me that everyone is calling this girl (who may have experienced, and may still be experiencing, mental and physical anguish) names. If the accusations are true we are only adding to her problems. Ditto for the players, though the only slander I've seen is folks directly accusing them. Again it still hasn't been officially confirmed it was them, and they have not been convicted of anything either way.
Anyone can commit sexual assault or rape: could be the kindly old ex-coach in State College, a hotshot football player in Texas, etc. we are always shocked: "oh it could never be THAT guy, what reason does he have?" There is no reason to it. And it's often from the folks you don't expect.
I hope justice is served to whoever is at fault here. And I hope the name-calling stops.
