šŸˆ Blake Sims...where he ranks among all QB's

Thought this article was interesting, under the signature stats section. Ironically I clicked the link because it talks about Mark Barron's stats once he moved to nickle linebacker this season...who by the way was just traded to the Rams for 2 draft picks.

73 percent of Panthers QB Cam Newton’s passing yards have come through the air, most in the league. Falcons QB Matt Ryan is last at 38.5 percent.

Its basically saying that the receivers after the catch on Carolina are accounting for 444 yds (27% of the 1643 yards of passing Cam Newton has thrown this season to date). On the other hand, the receivers on the Falcons are accounting for 1418 yds (61.5% of the 2306 yards of the passing Matt Ryan has thrown thus far). In other words, Matt Ryan is averaging 4.48 yds per pass in the air (198 completions and 888 yds in the air). Cam Newton is averaging 8.75 yds per pass in the air ( 137 completions and 1199 yds in the air).

Getting a glimpse at what a mobile qb can do in our offense. I sure do wish we'd focus more on finding these type qb's. I know they don't grow on trees but at least make an attempt at getting them.

Look up Blake Barnett, QB coming in next year. "Dual threat" doesn't even start to describe this kid. I said from the beginning that if Sims won the starting QB spot that it could be a blessing for us for the future with Saban and company being able to show more dual threat style QBs what that type of athlete can do in the Alabama offense. I've always felt like the pocket styled passer stigma is what kept any dual threat QBs from coming to Bama in the past few years.

I'll also add that him being black also tears down some stereotypes that was being used against us on the recruiting trail. "Alabama doesn't play black quarterbacks" has been a tactic used against us by other schools in recruiting. This should dispel that accusation.

Yeah thats one thats been used since the pre integration days so no surprise there.

I have NEVER understood that one! Up until JP Wilson came along and AJ since, Andrew Zow held all of the damn QB records!! That is such a moronic and desperate tactic. Now we have had our share of QBs that didn't pan out BUT, it wasn't because they were NEVER given a shot. Look at Vince Sutton, Danny Woodson, Star Jackson, Phillip Simms. These guys all had a shot and it didn't pan out. Walter Lewis and Andrew Zow panned out pretty well and now Blake has his turn.

I've got to think that wouldn't be a factor with Saban's history of playing the best player, period, plus his relationships with Rohan Davey and JaMarcus Russell. I still get a little queasy typing Rohan Davey's name. Somewhere, he's probably still connecting with Josh Reed...I really wish Coop would break Reed's single-game receiving record put up against Bama, but he'll need almost 300 yards to do it.

RTR,

Tim

Regrettably, I was at that game and sat right behind the Alabama bench and Carl Torbush. He had NO answer for LSU that day. What a complete disaster.

I was in the stands that day as well. I recall listening to Jimbo Fisher, then OC at LSwho, speak at a clinic that spring. He diagramed two plays. He called them 80 Cab and 80 Cadillac. He said that those were the two plays that Davey and Reed connected on ALL DAY against BAMA! I stood up and yelled, " NO SHIT! I WAS IN THE STANDS AND WE STILL HAVEN'T STOPPED IT!"

I don't know which was worse, that game or the La Monroe game a couple of years later. I was present for that one too.

The ULM loss or Northern Illinois the year before would probably be up there for me... Louisiana Tech in '99 was awful too, especially with how it happened. Shaun Alexander tried his damnest to drag DuBose to win in that game, even returning a kickoff for a TD, but a damn hail mary smh The Southern Miss and Auburn games in 2000 were pretty downright horrific to have to sit through, but I think that LSU game yall are talking about with Josh Reed was probably the closest you can get while watching football to have an idea of how helpless prison rape would feel... Was that too much?

LMAO!!!

It is safe to say that we survived Dubose, Franchione, and Shula. Saban has definitely spoiled us!!
I was at Legion Field that night against La Tech. It seemed that Alexander had around 400yds all purpose and Dubose still lost it. The start of the 2000 season held some high hopes and man did that go SOUTH quick! Each and every loss was that aspirin you had to swallow with no water! When Franchione bailed, I gave Shula a pass the first couple of years and chalked it up to inexperience. Then it got downright pitiful.
Going back to that LSwho game, Reed had an option route on the 80 Cab. Depending on the corner, Reed would run a fade for press man, which our corners were pretty bad. If the corner played soft, it was a 3 step speed out that was just like a toss sweep against air!! Damn that was ugly!!

^^ Yeah I really gave Shula alot of leash before I started going in on him cause he walked into a pretty lousy situation. The Fran debacle, then the Mike Price debacle, and just coming off of NCAA sanctions I'm sure no matter the legacy and facilities Alabama was a hard sell at the time to recruit. Shula was just in way over his head. I always wondered how different it would have been if Croom got the job.
