šŸˆ Blake Sims...where he ranks among all QB's

According to ESPN, he is ranked 1st in QBR...

RK PLAYER TEAM QBR
1 Blake Sims ALA 90.8
2 Marcus Mariota ORE 89.4
3 Deshaun Watson CLEM 88.5
4 Nick Marshall AUB 86.8
5 Taysom Hill BYU 85.4
6 Drew Hare NIU 83.5
7 Dak Prescott MSST 83.2
8 Justin Thomas GT 82.3
9 Kenny Hill TA&M 81.8
10 Cody Kessler USC 81.6

but he's not good enough to take the starting spot.

Sims doesn't have a strong/accurate enough arm for the deep pass.

Sims' speed isn't really all that good to make defenders miss if he takes off on a run.

i LOVE it when one of our players makes liars out of everyone else (in a good way, obviously).

While I am pleased with his play, he does have the benefit of Cooper turning a lot of 4 yard plays into TD's.

While I have been a critic of Sims, he's become more accurate and fortunate of late. I'll give the offensive coordinator a tip of the hat for developing him and making him look great with great play calling.

Sims' ability to scramble, avoid sacks and run the ball makes up for any deficiencies he has in his accuracy. I'll just take the Tennessee game alone. Sims picked up a crucial first down by scrambling that McCarron and McElroy would have NEVER gotten. He brings an element to our offense that neither McCarron or McElroy does and it makes it very hard for defenses to plan for us.

My favorite aspects of his play are the speed he puts on the quick screen passes and sideline passes. Getting that ball to the receiver that fast helps a lot with the play developing downfield and not getting overrun by a corner. Also his footspeed and running ability which are tops in the conference among QBs no doubt.

I wonder if people say the same about Peyton Manning when the short passes he throws get turned into 50 yard plays? Or when Tom Brady throws all those 1-3 yard passes that get turned into big plays, do they say the same?

No comparison at all but why do we feel the need to throw that out there? Does he need to throw it 50 yards in the air for it to be a great play?

No they don't, because they both make lots of plays downfield. Blake Sims hasn't done that. I'm not saying he's bad, but his numbers are particularly inflated by a lot of plays going for more than they should have due to one receiver.

Blake Sims' success has come no different than any other successful quarterback at Alabama. I can count a lot of big pass plays AJ had credited to him that were very short passes that the wr did all the work. Actually, Sims has brought a new element of mobility that neither McElroy or McCarron did. There have been times in several games this season that if McCarron or McElroy had of been behind center we would have suffered possibly game changing sacks. Sims deserves the props at this point. He's outperformed both McCarron and McElroy (statistically) as a first year starter.

So Blake hasnt done that? So in other words you look at plays like the roll out where Coop took a 12 yard pass and turned it into an 80 yard TD or the screen passes he's done the same with and them completely ignore the 80 yard TD to Drake, the bombs Sims has thrown to Coop including one right after that short pass which I believe was a 41 yard TD in the same game. All those deep passes down the field and the pretty fade routes he throws, you ignore and claim "Sims hasn't done that." Thats just flat out not true.
