🏈 Bielema to Arkansas

$600k pay bump (23% increase).

3 consecutive Rose Bowls, what else/more could he do at Wisconsin - is what I would imagine. I was curious if his new wife was from Arkansas, doesn't appear that way. Maybe tired of the snow :)

Today around 12pm CST, the name for Arkansas was Gundy, twitter was all over it, beat writers retweeting the Gundy name like crazy. This lead me to wonder, what kinda bidding war you could get Okie State and Arkansas into - could you be successful playing Pickens vs Jones?

I can tell you guys this....in no way did I see this one coming. I was totally shocked. All day it was Mike Gundy this and Mike Gundy that. Everybody kept saying it was Mike Gundy. In fact, at one point I was starting to accept it myself and then BAM!!!!! Jeff Long goes and hits one over the fence again.

This hire came out of nowhere and I'm still scratching my head on how Long pulled this off.

I love the idea of the smash mouth football that he plays.

As far as Tenpenny.....that was talked about today on the radio after the hire was announced. Who knows if he will get him.

Again, I'm shocked and I'm happy!

And btw....I stole this from my dad....

From 2006-2011, Wisconsin's offense was as balanced as much as possible. 16,599 yards rushing and 16,541 yards passing. That is BALANCED. Most coaches, when they speak of balanced, are referring to 60-40 or so. This is true balance.

I'll take it!

This guy was never even mentioned as far as I remember for any job in the SEC. It'll be interesting to see how he changes Razorbacks football. With the shock factor of this hire, I'd say for now JL hit a home run.

Evidently Alvarez didn't see it coming either. He's said he's not sure if he will let him coach in the Rose Bowl or not. He might come out of the AD office to coach this game.

Damn. I feel bad for the players. Kinda reminds me of in the TV show 'Friday Night Lights', when Coach tells the team he accepted a job to coach a college team, but he tells his players this the day before the state championship game. Awkward.

In the month we're in, it shouldn't matter.

There isn't going to be a lot of game prep with the team going on these next two weeks. If he's like any other coach, his players are getting a little down time and will move into what's basically off-season work—conditioning, weight training, fundamentals, etc.

The dead period starts on the 17th of this month. So, there's not going to be a tremendous impact on recruiting for Wisconsin. These next few weeks do give him a chance to put his staff together at Arkansas and being making the first contact with some of the kids he might want to bring on board. Of course he'll certainly be looking at the kids currently committed and see if they "fit his system," so to speak.

My thoughts are he should get a chance. After what he's accomplished this year he deserves the opportunity.

My hunch is it's one of two things. 1. He may not have been totally honest with Alvarez about this, or 2. BA is upset because of their long relationship and how he groomed BB to be his successor and he feels slighted.

"University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez will coach the Badgers football team in the Rose Bowl, the State Journal has confirmed.

A source close to Alvarez said the team's captains reached out to Alvarez and asked him to coach the team. Alvarez told them he would be "honored" to do so."

A beat writer for Arkansas mentioned last night that Long had been contacted early in the fall about Bielema's interest.

Yes, I'd definitely think Alvarez is a bit upset.

There are a few things I'm curious about when it comes to Bielema. One of the larger ones is how he reacts to the microscope he's going to be under coaching in the SEC. We're just a few months removed from some conversations about Wisconsin and Bama playing a game. We were more than happy to play at a neutral site, Bielema said he wanted a home and home and our administration didn't want to do that.

So, that ended up being spun as "Bama doesn't want to play Wisconsin" in the football offices in Madison. Spin like that might play in B1G country. It won't work down here.

BB has had a reputation in the B1G for being a total d!ck. Living in Indy and with four kids who have Purdue degrees, I have a rooting interest except when they play the Irish so I've read and heard a lot about Wisconsin. I can see where Alvarez is upset and it wouldn't surprise me if BB was doing something behind the curtains. Calipari was doing the same thing with IU in basketball. One of the greatest college basketball rivals and series in the history of the game and Calipari refused to maintain it because IU wanted a home and home while Calipari wanted to play in larger more nuetral sites. IU offered to split the difference Home and large venue of his choice and he refused.
