🏈 @BFeldmanCBS: Source confirms FSU asst. Mark Stoops will be named next football coach at UK, as init

Today, Mark Stoops is the 10th most tenured coach in the SEC. :icon_twisted:

Not a good hire for Kentucky. And, that's not a knock on Mark Stoops coaching ability. It's a description of Kentucky football.

In my opinion, they need a guy who brings something different to the table. The most success they've enjoyed in years has been when they had Mumme. Why? An offensive scheme that opponents had little time to work on, and one that was very hard to simulate.

I certainly can see Stoops achieving Rich Brooks type success. Who, by the way, I thought did a good job at UK.

Brooks did it mainly with defense, and Stoops is a defense guy. Kentucky is a tough coaching stop for any aspiring football coach because of the enormous shadow of their basketball program.

Which is why I think Stoops has a shot at Rich Brooks' type success.

I believe Kentucky has the ability to do better than have a goal of reaching .500 in SEC play—coincidentally the best they've had under any coach in a long time.

Only in using him as example, a good offensive guy like Petrino could have put them higher than that 4th-5th placed eastern division team. I certainly don't want them to hire Petrino. Hell, I wouldn't mind it if BP didn't see another down coaching the rest of his life. But, the point stands.

Imagine someone with the offensive mind like Art Briles if given the chance.

Not sure if I was Stoops I would've taken the job. I just think Kentucky is a bad place to go to improve your resume.

Also, just seen on ESPN Arkansas made an offer to Les Miles so say reports. I don't see him taking that job or even thinking about it

due to the numbers problem up there, i think kentucky would be best served to put most of their recruiting effort into defense and run some sort of option, veer type offense... basically try to do what GT is doing with paul johnson... except maybe have a little bit of a defense.

i agree that rich brooks was great for them and they should have stuck with him.
