🏈 BCS Championship Question

It could because the ranking of Georgia and ND will not be playing that week.... but if that were to happen, I don't think it would happen.

But I would take a #2 spot right now though :biggrin_blue:

IMO we need two of the three teams ahead of us to lose. After last season's outcry I don't think we have a shot otherwise.

Much as it irks me, I have become a USCw fan, and a Texas fan.

Breaking that question down a little more...

It all depends on how the votes UGA is receiving now are split. Those voting UGA #4 in the coaches...if all those go to Bama it'll help. There's 103 points that separate Bama from Notre Dame today. We'd probably need to get some of the votes Florida State is getting as well.

The wild card is how those votes for one of the teams that lost are cast. Most likely to the undefeated team.

The Harris poll has a bigger gap between ND and UA. But the same principle applies.

While it does boil down to who is #1 and who is #2 in the BCS rankings, you can't forget those rankings are compiled using the points from the two polls and computers.

Terry...you went where I was going with that. just curious if a SEC Championship win could give Bama enough gas to pass an undefeated ND.

I wish we had access to all the votes in both polls like the AP publishes each week. It would be a lot easier to answer. Some of the voters do some things that are beyond my reasoning.

IE: Jimbo Fisher said his vote fro #4 went to FSU this past weekend. His reasoning for voting the Seminoles over the SEC teams was "it shouldn't be about who you play, but how you look when you play." Yeah, I'm still wondering about that one as well.

"how you look when you play"....just a few weeks ago, people were saying we could beat an NFL team.. I think we pass the eye test.. two emotional games shouldn't be the deciding factor on how a team really looks.. If so then Florida State deserves to be out of the top ten cause they looked pretty bad against NC State and Va Tech.

on another note... does anyone here see Alabama as a team that is playing championship football or, for that matter, even improving weekly?

Alabama is devolving offensively. If i was a voter, sadly, i could not vote for Alabama to play in the big one at this point even if the other three teams had a loss. they are playing better football at this point in the season that alabama is.

Now... if Alabama beats these last two on the sched by 40 and also blows out UGA by a large margin and appears to be getting back to playing football (tackling, running the ball on 1st and goal from the 6, not consistently overthrowing wide open receivers early in the game) i would definitely put Bama over a one loss K.state, Oregon, or ND.

also.... does anyone really see oregon losing to usc this year or k. state losing to texas? i just don't see it in the cards this year, fellas. which is really a shame if Bama does run the table and doesn't go, because i think a lot of people who truly know football would like to see at least one team in the title game that has a defense... and out of the three undefeateds, ND appears to have the most effective defense. it's a sad day for football if 2 out of these three remaining play for the NCG. it may also be one of the least viewed NCG's ever...

Blows out Georgia ? Last time I checked, they are a pretty good team and ranked #5.
Bama did hand LSU a loss and yes we came from behind, but last time I checked they were also a pretty good team.
Oregons defense is beat up...bad..and their QB took a hit on his shoulder that could come into play at anytime in the future.
I wouldnt count Texas down and out yet either vs. KS.
And USC beating ND isnt out of the question.

I agree we have fell short in some areas, making mistakes that are not normally made but we are pretty much a spoiled fanbase and have expectations that sometimes are unreasonable. Last year we took a loss and the blocked FG against TN in 09 had us hanging by a thread....so this year isnt all that different........just my opinion of course.

The last time I checked UGA has won one game of meaning this season and that was a game where UF gave them the ball six times and still barely won due to stupid penalities committed by the Gators. A Georgia team that barely got out of Lexington, Kentucky with a win. A Georgia team that gave up 44 points to TN. A Georgia team that has won four games against ranked teams in the last five years and played 18 of them. 4-18.

The last time I checked UGA hasn't proven anything and until they do they'll remain a soft, underachieving team.

Has that changed in a matter of a few weeks?

Until they demonstrate differently, the suggestion they get beaten soundly will continue on my part.

OH, I don't like Georgia.

EHere is my take on why some people would say Bama is playing sub-par. Since CNS has been there, we have always been a team that made it simple. We would line up and tell people we were running and MAKE them stop it. It seems like now, if someone stops one or two of our run plays, our OC is borderline panicing and thinks the ball needs to be in the air. The throwing on first down and running on second got WAY to predictable. I was literally sitting here callng our plays nearly everytime we lined up in the second half. My dad kept asking how i knew that....PREDICATABILITY. and my biggest gripe.....TACKLING.....and our secondary is one of the worst ive seen about not knowing how to make a good tackle by breaking down and squaring up with their HEADS UP. Our DBs have always been bad about lowering their heads and not wrapping up. They leave their feet with their heads down and either try to arm tackle or ram with their shoulder. Those r the biggest no no's in tackling. If they could revisit tackling 101 and fix this problem, our D would improve, simply by making tackles. Im sure u have heard coaches say, we need to go back to fundamentals......i think its time Bama took a step in that direction with takling.

The 'Bama secondary is young... w/ the exception of Milner. Mistakes will happen w/ them, especially when they are gased. No two ways about it. This is the fundamental reason Johnny Football made his backyard football plays. Once he plays a secondary that is extremely well conditioned or aged as well as coached up, he's toast. This was the year year for this to happen b/c of our young secondary AND since Johnny is new on the scene.

I have no worries about their future. CNS is going to drill these guys to death & Cochran just got his memo last week w/ what he is going to be doing in workouts for the next 4-5 weeks, especially if 'Bama makes it to the BCSNCG playing Oregon. Losing to Texas A&M might've been the rub this teams needed to prepare for Oregon. CNS has always delivered when it comes to correcting mistakes in the secondary, especially in the off season or in preperation for a bowl game.

They are young & will harden w/ time. I'm just thankfull we have the horses in the stable.

I thought the defense played well after the first quarter or so. The offense was particularly offensive for most of thr game. Our oc is in qb land but out qb is not on the same page.

I agree that the defense had their QB figured out after the first quarter but the points were too much to overcome. I think Bama is capable of beating Georgia, even at the level of play we have been at for the last two games......but i dont see it being a "blowout". i would however love to be wrong.
