COLLEGE STATION, Texas. – In a 4-4 game in the final inning,
Brennen Norton and
Kade Snell broke the deadlock, as the pair lifted consecutive two-out solo home runs to guide No. 17 Alabama baseball to a 6-4 win over No. 19 Texas A&M on Friday at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. The Crimson Tide improved to 18-1 overall and 1-0 in Southeastern Conference play with the victory.
Norton and Snell both finished the evening 1-for-4, as their solo homers in the ninth resulted in their lone hits.
Will Hodo was 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, producing a two-run home run in the second to open the scoring.
Bryce Fowler closed 1-for-4, also slugging a two-run home run.
Richie Bonomolo Jr. and
Coleman Mizell managed 1-for-4 efforts with both men contributing doubles. Eight of the nine men in the Tide lineup managed one hit apiece.
Zane Adams was tasked with his fifth start of the spring and the native Texan delivered a quality outing in his home state. Adams was responsible for just one earned run on seven hits over his 5.2 innings while walking just one to go with four strikeouts.
Matthew Heiberger surrendered a pair of hits and notched two strikeouts to encompass his 0.2 innings.
Carson Ozmer (1-0) earned the win after entering the game with a one-run lead in the seventh. After allowing a game-tying home run in the eighth, Ozmer saw the first two men in the ninth reach base. Even so, the graduate induced a 1-3 double play before picking up the final out of the ballgame to earn his first victory of the spring.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"Great start to SEC play tonight. I challenged the guys before the game to win the toughness battle and they were great tonight. What a great start for
Zane Adams in his home state and just gritty at-bats all night long. The environment was electric tonight and the boys responded like I knew they would. I'm proud of the effort and on to the next one."
