🏈 Barners are getting a little rediculous

i think our pass rush is fine..we haven't generated many sacks, but most of our sacks were off the corner last year.. we have not blitzed much because of an inexperienced secondary, but we win most of our battles up front.. our problems with the run (not that we have major problems) have been with gap assignment..

I agree that our pass rush pressure can be pretty good at times. We lead the nation in interceptions - many of which were caused by pressure on the QB. I'll take an interception over a sack any day.

Duder, I said that we would use a similar scheme. I didn't say that our pass rush was like last year's. Last year, our ends would push up to a level even with Tebow and thus keep him in the pocket, not allowing lanes to open up to allow him to run. This scheme would force your man to trust his coverage reading abilities and his arm rather than improvising and taking off using his best weapon, his legs.

It amazes me how many of you do not understand the role and consequences of a pass rush. Sacs are sexy but have very little to do with indicating a pass rush, while TO's directly relate to pass rush effectiveness. We have missed some gap assignments and tackled poorly at times, but we have consistently made the QB move off the spot, which is why we LEAD THE NATION in interceptions. Heck, if our LB's could catch we would have 4 or 5 more interceptions. The perceived weakness of both UA and AU is the secondary. AU as more sacs that us but only 7 interceptions. We have few sacs but LEAD THE NATION in interceptions (15). Our pass rush is fine, we just need to be more gap sound and tackle better.

Agree with this 100% (except what is a "sac?" - ha, j/k). We have, indeed, been low on sacks this year. But alot of this is due to heavily emphasizing a disciplined pass rush - staying in lanes and not rushing past the passer, which is exactly when a guy like Cam gets his biggest runs. We have alot of strength and talent and we have big LBs. If we stay disciplined and don't get sucked into the fakes and misdirection, we'll do fine.

Now, having said that, another thing that is dangerous is letting Cam get up a head of steam. So, while we maintain our gap and land discipline, we still have to get a push and be aggressive and try to get to him before he gets moving.

Time will bear it out...

The way you avoid getting sucked in by zone read and option fakes is you play as if there is no ball and you carry out your assignment. One reason GT is suffering is ACC Defensive Coordinators are returning to days of old when everyone ran some form of the option and defending it was the norm. They now teach their players to defend your assignment. If the ball shows up, fine. If it doesn't show up, fine. You just play your assignment and trust that everyone else will play theirs.
