Sources confirm Muschamp is coming to South Carolina and will be bringing some of his defensive coaches from Florida.

Sources have confirmed that Will Muschamp will be South Carolina's new Defensive Coordinator. Sealing the deal is the opportunity to be South Carolina's Head Coach when Spurrier retires. Muschamp plans to bring several of his defensive coaches from Florida.

Muschamp's estimated salary will be $1.6 - $1.9 million.

Muschamp chose SC over Auburn.
So far, sources indicate Grady Brown (secondary coach) and Kirk Botkin (linebacker coach) will be leaving. More information to be released as received. USC President Harris Pastides gave the green-light to pursue Muschamp and get the deal done!

Steve Spurrier says he has not hired Will Muschamp. (USATSI)
Steve Spurrier and Will Muschamp both disputed an Internet report Friday that Muschamp had been hired as South Carolina's new defensive coordinator and potential coach-in-waiting, with Spurrier saying he had not yet made any changes to his Gamecocks staff.

"No, I haven't hired Will," Spurrier told The State. "I haven't really talked to anybody about additions [to the staff]."

247Sports' JC Shurburtt reported Friday that Muschamp had personally denied the report to 247Sports. Per Shurburtt and other outlets, Muschamp is currently vacationing with his family in the Dominican Republic.

Scout affiliate Gamecock Pride reported early Friday that Muschamp's arrival as South Carolina's new defensive coordinator was a "done deal," with "the opportunity to be South Carolina's Head Coach when Spurrier retires" the primary incentive behind Muschamp's decision.

The former Florida coach is reportedly weighing offers from both Auburn and Texas A&M to become those team's (well-paid) defensive coordinator, though those reports indicated no decision would be immediately forthcoming, and ESPN further reports it will wait until after Muchamp's vacation. Spurrier echoed that timetable, saying, "From what I hear, Will is going to wait for everything to settle down."

Per Shurburtt's report, Auburn is currently "the frontrunner for his services," but that a coach-in-waiting offer from the Gamecocks might change his position. Associated Press reporter Mark Long has likewise pointed out that Muschamp has stronger family ties to the Columbia area than Auburn.

honestly i hope it turns out to be true. Living in Columbia for years USCe is my 2nd favorite team and let Muschamp get ahold of that D and focus solely on D and it will be Bama vs USCe in the SECCG for the next few years if they recruit right

Why should we believe he's considering the job?

As soon as I saw Jay Tate by bullshit meter broke. Remember, this is the same guy that said Fisher was going to be the head coach at Auburn. The same guy that...

...geez, I'm not going to waste my time listing all the instances...

I also posted this link on an SEC board. Here is the response I got from a barner:

Re: Barn has offered Muschamp
I don't doubt an offered has been made. Auburnsports.com is terrible at reporting. They reported a QB that committed to FSU chose Auburn. They were trying to be the first one to report the story and instead of listening to the announcement they just made a story about Auburn. Big reason why I left rivals and a lot of other people (use to belong to 247 and rivals). I will believe he is hired when i see 247 reporting it.

What's interesting to me in all of this, Florida is still paying him the walking full price.

Florida didn't have a clause in the contract for a first time head coach that reduces their buyout when he accepts another job. I'm shocked.

Muschamp is now the highest paid assistant in college football.
