Which one is the real one? The one that's on Bama Cuts for 5 mins or the one that's been on the tv/radio for years... I'll go with quantity.
Yesterday I received a notification that the Alumni Association was having Jermaine (funnymaine) as their guest speaker. Throughout the day I saw several fans, players, et. al., say they were not attending because of the dust-up last year with Auburn in March Madness.

Now, Jermaine has been lauded as being a clean, respectful comedian. However, when people questioned him on his support for Auburn he had the meltdown of all meltdowns sprewing things through his twitter account that were neither clean or respectful.

So, do we judge based on one instance or his work as a whole? Based on what I saw, the "quantity" of his work was a show.

Over the years we've had many discussion about how the sports networks voice opinions; there's always a protagonist and an antagonist. Each personality playing a role. A character, is the descriptor I used earlier.

We know Smith's act. I don't care for it but that because I don't like the act. However, I do believe it's important to separate the two. The act versus the person.

Sure, but I'm of the opinion the act is the person for Stephen A Smith. I don't like his act at all.

Funnymaine, his meltdown on Twitter showed a side that I didn't care for. Truth be told, his act was a bit long in the tooth after the 3rd or 4th game.

Stephen A Smith has probably ~20 years of act under his belt. I'm still of the opinion eventually the act becomes the person. His act prevents me from wanting to know more.

Generally speaking, I fall into the "never judge a book by its cover" bucket, but there are exceptions. Let's face it, it would take years of interactions with either of these two to really understand if the act is the person, which ain't happening. So I go based on what I see...neither I care for.

I wholeheartedly agree, if it is just an act, it's still all we get. The dude would be right behind Paul Finebaum and Skip Bayliss on my all-time dinner guess list. A person would starve to death in that pecking order.

Stephen A. Smith,
Paul Finebaum
Skip Bayless

One, I hold a different opinion on Smith based on what's been heard and discussed about his appearances. I hold the view his message will resonate with the team. That's something that deserves a hat tip.

Secondly, I don't feel Finebaum belongs in the same conversation in this instance. Two different genres. And while Smith has a similar background as Bayless, and Paul, he's got a voice that resonates louder because he's played collegiate sports (albeit, small school.)

He definitely has a voice that resonates louder. And why his special brand of dogma moves the meter.

Contrarian that I am I actually like Stephen A.

I really get his brand of humor but I also understand those that find him abrasive
