Over the past few days I've watched some people become incensed about offensive philosophy's and this hire. Some of the names, and ideas offered, have had me laughing, literally.

Here we sit today...same names as a week ago but since Saban is actually working again this week we should expect a little movement.

I think one of the biggest stories being missed is how differently offensive coordinator searches have been in the SECW this spring. Auburn's, LSU's, and Bama's have such different story lines.

Just don't put me in that "incensed" category on the OC watch. Just curious why certain names come up and who these folks are. My prediction: More of the same with an emphasis on getting the ball downfield.

When Staples started the thought about Kelly I imagined him kicked back on a patio, eating BBQ, after several beers and bowls ... one of those "hey, what ya think about..." and the story grew from there.

Ya know, the soundcloud you posted earlier got me to thinking about the whole "family man with 5 kids" sentiment...

I'm thinking that may be EXACTLY why he considers the job here. Great private schools in the area, and a much smaller and less hectic town than Beantown.

And also on the family point, I'd look for at least a 3 year contract with him if he gets the job. Short of him getting his dream OC job in the league, I'd imagine he's a pretty long term solution here, at least a 3 year minimum. Hell, erratic Kiffin stayed 3 years.

And to play the spoiler: with 3 young QBs on the roster, you have to think that Saban is looking for a known developer of QBs.

And after skimming his resumé, nothing really jumps out at me with respect to Daboll as a QB whisperer.

It's been eight days since offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian bolted from Alabama for the same spot with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. Tide fans have been antsy ever since. But the wait for Sark's replacement might soon be over.

Sources in Boston indicated on Wednesday that New England Patriots tight ends coach Brian Daboll was mulling over a "substantial" offer to become the Tide's new offensive coordinator. A source close to the Patriots organization expected Daboll to decide on the offer very soon. Even though no decision had been made, the source felt that Daboll was leaning towards accepting the Tide offer.

Daboll, who has coached 17 seasons in the NFL, is in his second stint in New England. He's spent the past three seasons coaching tight ends for the Patriots. He worked one season as an offensive assistant. Prior to this stint, he was with the Patriots for seven seasons (2000-06), first as a defensive assistant (2000-01) and then as the wide receivers coach (2002-06). He's been part of five Super Bowl titles in New England.

Daboll has also held the title of offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns. He began his career as a graduate assistant under Nick Saban at Michigan State (1998-1999).

Another candidate who reportedly interviewed for the position was former Houston Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey.

Also, as an assistant for the defense ... a name out there that's been shared here is in the running for another in-house type of job. It would come as a shock to a lot, a disAUppointment to those who deserve it, and what I think would be a great addition to the staff at UA.

That's how I'm seeing it work out.

IF I've got this right, Daboll takes the OC job, as Co-OC Locksley takes over coaching the WR's, Pannunzio takes over the DFO position just vacated, and we're left with the question of who takes over the TE's.

Assuming all works out and the 10th assistant is approved soon I can see Rocker moving from that analyst position into a de-facto "on the field coach/recruiting coordinator."

**Small side-note: When LSU let Craig go there was a lot of talk about the football complex about the possibility of him moving to T-town for that 10th possible position. That would have ticked off a few rivals including two of the biggest in the west. If this works out the way I'm seeing/hoping it would be Rocker instead of Craig which should tick some other SEC rivals off as well: Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and specifically Auburn (again.) He'd be a hell of a hire! **

Seems the 10th Coach will be a 2018 addition... But as far as the QB Whisper, remember Trickett was just named a GA and he was whispering in the ears of the QBs on the Last Chance U's of Mississppi until then. Maybe a way for him to get exposure in a much bigger program and if JH improves and the other two show talent, maybe in between runs the O can shove the ball down the field to stretch out the safeties and DB's

With the claim of budgetary concerns for some of the smaller schools my first thought is "here's another reason to separate P5 from G5 school's."

We saw the satellite camps voted on, banned, and then the rule amended for '17 ... so, the possibility of the rules committee changing the date is certainly a possibility.

But, we're talking about the NCAA's rule committee ... have they ever been consistent?

IMO, even if Rocker is not an on-the-field coach in '17 he's still a heck of an addition to this staff.

With "run Daboll" already being hailed as our new OC in waiting, the uncertainty of syncing Jalen and new OC to his skill set and strength seems ominous.
