Alabama cornerbacks coach Karl Scott is the SEC's top recruiter, according to 247Sports' Recruiter Rankings.

The UA assistant played a big role in the success of Alabama’s No. 2-ranked class, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, leading the charge on several of the Tide’s highest-rated signees.

"This is an accumulation of a lot of hard work by a lot of people," Nick Saban said on Wednesday afternoon. "I think our recruiting staff here did a phenomenal job sort of setting the table for our coaches to go out and make the evaluations – that’s something you have to do really early on now to figure out who you want to recruit. And then going through the process of developing the relationships to recruit them."

Arguably the most impressive feat for Scott in the 2020 cycle was flipping Oklahoma’s two highest-rated commits out of the DFW area, a recruiting hotbed for both Texas and OU. Five-star athlete Drew Sanders joined the Crimson Tide’s class last April after spending over year as a member of the Sooners’ class. Scott followed up landing Jase McClellan on Early Signing Day after the elite ball carrier spent two and a half years as a part of Lincoln Riley’s class. Sanders ranks the No. 1 athlete and No. 22 overall player in the country. McClellan rates as the No. 6 running back and the No. 46 overall player in the nation, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

On top of Scott’s success in the Lone Star State, he also took the reigns on the Birmingham area following Brent Key’s departure for Georgia Tech early on in 2019. In doing so, Scott helped in keeping longtime commits Roydell Williams and Malachi Moore on board with the program, while also going out and landing a pledge from elite outside linebacker Quandarrius Robinson out of Jackson-Olin and Houston area offensive lineman Damieon George last summer.

He wasn’t done there. The Tide offered Ronald Williams last fall as the program was looking for an immediate impact player in its secondary. Led by Scott, the Tide landed a pledge and signature from the junior college All-American on Early Signing Day.

This while playing secondary role on other recruitments, including Jacksonville standout Jahquez Robinson.

In all, Scott played a primary or secondary role in 10 different recruitments, amassing a total of 79.19 points, which isn't far behind the the nation's top overall recruiter (Ohio State's Brian Hartline). Scott finished No. 3 overall in the nation.

Going forward the Tide will continue leaning on Scott in both its in-state efforts and beyond. Several of the Tide’s 2021 recruitments feature Scott in a lead role, including five-star cornerback Ga'Quincy McKinstry, five-star offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer, four-star defensive tackle Tim Keenan, and many more.
