šŸ€ BAMA travels to Texas A&M for the last regular season game of 2018.

Bama needs to start being serious about basketball. Either make a run at a top tier coach or don’t and enjoy the mediocre crap that we're all used to

Who you talking about bringing in? Very easy to make an open ended statement like that without providing any names and presenting figures. We clearly went after Wichita State's guy and a large sum of money didn't win it. Quit being a cry baby, it hasn't been that bad of a season. We lost the last five and it freaking sucked, but Rome wasn't built in a day. I thoroughly enjoyed beating Auburn for their first SEC loss and snapping their streak, finally getting a win in Gainesville, embarrassing Tennessee, beating a good ranked A&M team, and hanging tough playing three freaking guys against Minnesota. How long did it take Roy Willaims, John Calipari, and Coach K to create winning brands? Just look below and you'll see the records of some of the best to ever do it in the last thirty years. I see a similar trend, give the guy three to four years. These guys came to blue blood programs too, not an Alabama type program that has focused way more on football than basketball, and it still took these guys years to set it up. Lighten up a hair.

You want to call Grant's tenure mediocre, I'd readily agree. One only has to look at wins over ranked teams to find evidence: 0-27.

Calling what has happened these last three years just isn't doing the team, or coach, any service especially when considering the wins over ranked teams this season.
And the losses to mediocre to bad teams. I’m not calling for CAJ to be fired or anything, but there’s only so much Rah Rah ā€œbuckle upā€ you can do while your team is inconsistent and frankly just not very good the last 2-3 weeks

Bama has only had 3 losing BB seasons (Hobbs/Gottfried/Grant/Johnson in 25 seasons .....that is pretty dayum good...not elite. The barn had 7 losing seasons in a row with Pearl having two of those before these last two winning seasons. The potential is there for Bama if they can ever land a HC that can recruit and Coach. It appears 10RC did a better job if making a coaching hire than Bama.

We're now making comparisons to two coaches--one in Pearl and the other in Barnes.

First up, Pearl. You're making a comparison between a 18-14 season with a 17-14 season; the latter isn't over yet. What's more important here is you're also comparing a SOS for Auburn of 107 versus that of this year's Bama team at # 6. We're comparing the same season's--their third--and there's nothing to compare here outside of it being their third season. One far outweighs the other even if there's a one game difference.

Adding to that we're comparing an Auburn team that didn't even make the NIT last season versus that of Bama who is still looking at a NCAA invitation. Bama still might not make the NCAA's, but there's a NIT bid that will come if the at-large bid isn't sent to Tuscaloosa. The latest has Bama as a #1 seed in the NIT. A #1 seed in the NIT versus a team that didn't play in NIT?

Now, to close out on Pearl. In three seasons he'd notched up 44 wins versus that of Avery who currently has 54 wins and the season isn't over.

-----

Barnes: 54 wins versus 54 from Bama. But, UT did a better job on the hiring end?
Rick Barnes versus Avery Johnson. He has one win and two losses when UT faces Bama. But, UT did a better job on the hiring end?

We, at least I, get you don't like the Avery hire. But, the main issue I have is how you're are trying to back up your opinion here. You're missing on every point.

-----

I know I've beaten this horse a few times but I have to ask. When will people look at the schedule? Seriously, when?

Why am I 'bringing this up again? You mention Barnes, his third season, and Tennessee and I'm looking at their last 10 games and they've played three tournament teams (assuming Bama is in.)

If we look at Auburn and Pearl's third season they played two teams that made "The Dance."

So, that leaves us with...

Bama playing eight tournament teams out of their last 10 in Avery's third season.
Auburn playing two tournament teams out of their last 10 in Pearl's third season.
Tennessee playing three--at the most--tournament teams in their last 10 games in Barnes third season.

So tell me, how are any of these two coaches in the same conversation as Avery?

Does CAJ have room to grow as a college head coach? You damn straight he does. But going back to our comparisons, looking at Pearl who has been a head coach of college basketball for 26 years and Barnes 31 years leaves me wondering again...how are these two in the same conversation?

I don't want Pearl around the program regardless to his record past or present.....even though he is a top of the shelf BB coach. Avery is a solid citizen and a great face for the program but he is maxed out as a coach. He is a buddy to the players and it shows. He is the Mark Richt of BB in the SEC. If you like 18-16 over and over then hell Hobbs,Mark, and Grant got that done with just 3 losing in seasons between them all. (25 years).

Definitely one of the bigger saving grace for CAJ and the Alabama basketball program is recruiting. Having the talent cupboards full, so to speak, makes for a much easier transition if things don't get much better going forward. I thought CAG really hurt us because of recruiting and players taking their talent elsewhere. As long as the high school talent is coming we can afford to exercise more patience and see if Avery can get this train moving in year 4.

His first three years at Auburn and he's got a losing record. But, he's a top of the shelf basketball coach. Or, he's a top of the shelf cheater.? There's more evidence to support the cheating part.

You go on to mention three losing seasons under Hobbs, Mark, and Grant and in the same breath laud Pearl as a good coach when he's had three in a row? And then, you follow that saying, "Avery maxed out as a coach?" Asinine.

In one swoop you've contradicted yourself. It's no different that your earlier post that was eviscerated when what you said was addressed with the actual numbers.

All indications are you simply don't like Avery. Why? I'm not sure I want to know. One thing I do know, everything you've said against him has a counter-point: often much greater than the point you've tried to make.

@alagator It's my opinion there are a number who have some fair criticisms of what he's done. It's also my opinion that those critiques of his tenure here aren't enough and a lot people are starting to make things up thinking it'll fit. Some, I'm sure, have an agenda though it's impossible for me to say who, or what their agenda may be.
