people are saying Bama needs Okie St and Stanford to lose to put them back at number 2, I feel that if Oklahoma beats Okie St then they will jump Bama because we have no more "quality" wins left on schedule.....human polls have them at #4 which is what is giving them the #3 in the BCS....they will not let a team that doesnt even play for their conference title to play for NC ever again....humans will vote Bama lower to keep out of BCS...JMO

I could see them moving OU ahead only to avoid a rematch. OU has a loss at home to unranked TT while we lost to the #1 team in the country in OT. That's the problem I have with that thinking.

BTW, in the OP there's mention of a team playing for the NC that didn't win their conference title. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but that hasn't happened anyway. There WAS talk of it a few years ago with Ohio State and Michigan...if I'm not mistaken that was the year LSU backed their way into the game with two losses including a regular season ending loss to Arkansas.

Yes, but not in 2000 against FSU. Oklahoma won their conf titles before getting into a title game except for 2003 when OU lost the conf title game to Kansas St, but BCS still had them #2 and they played lsu in New Orleans anyway. Worst football experience ever!

OU played LSU in the NC game in 2003 after getting annihilated in the BIG 12 championship by Kansas State. Also, Florida played Ohio State in the NC after Ohio State beat Michigan in the 1 & 2 game.

For some reason, I was thinking OU won one and didn't even play in the Big12 championship game?

Maybe it was before the acutal BCS started, but I could have sworn that either OU or NU played for the NC, and didn't go to the Big12 Championship game. :headscratch:

Here's what I was thinking of.
In 2001, Texas lost to Colorado in the Big12 Championship.
Nebraska, who came in 2nd in the Big12 north and there for did not play in the Big12 Champ game, went to the BCS Championship game (Rose Bowl)and Lost to Miami.

I wasn't trying to say one of them won the NC and didn't play in the conference championship game, just that they PLAYED for the NC.

It was 2003 when OU lost the big 12 title game to Kansas St. (35-7) Darren Sproles tore OU apart. The BCS formula still had OU at #2 after that loss and they played LSU in New Orleans for the title and lost that game too.

I think Bo is right about Nebraska playing against Miami when they didn't play in the Big 12 title game that year, but made it in because Texas lost.
