šŸˆ Auburn isn't a legit BCS contender

Two years ago, a trio of undefeated teams sat atop the Week 10 BCS standings: the Texas Longhorns were No. 1, the Alabama Crimson Tide were No. 2 and the Penn State Nittany Lions were No. 3. The two teams that ultimately played for the BCS title that year were sitting at No. 4 (Oklahoma Sooners) and No. 9 (Florida Gators) as November began.
No college football fan needs a lecture on how quickly things can change from one week to the next. The fact that "every week counts" in college football is a big part of what makes the sport so popular, and any one game can send the nation's top teams flipping through the BCS' automatic card shuffler.
But it is important to remember that as enamored as we might be with a team like the Auburn Tigers (not that we're picking on the Tigers already; there will be plenty of time for that later), it's not until the end of the season when we'll have a true sense of which teams were the best in college football that season.
The Eliminator can give us a decent guess, however, showing us how well this year's contenders match up with the statistical profiles of BCS and conference champions of the past six seasons. (For a more in-depth explanation of our methods, check out our first two posts here and here).
We go conference by conference, and the BCS race is near the bottom of this entry. Get down there, though: You'll learn that only three teams are meeting all six requirements for a national champion, while five other teams have only one category holding them back.

Four top 25 teams knocked off, three of which were in the top 12 when we played them. I suppose he'd like us to only play the rest of the top 5? Whether we go undefeated or not is a moot point. It is assinine to say the #2 team in the BCS, a team that is 9-0 in the SEC, isn't a legitimate contender. We may lose to Bama, we may lose to UGA--as it stands right now we have as much a right as Oregon to say we belong, more of a right than Boise State or TCU. Strength of schedule, record of opponents, etc. isn't even close.

Call me a homer if you like, this guy is a hack.

Yes I say you belong............right now. HA!

If you win out of course you deserve the BCS bid. But I honestly think AU fans are going to get a shocker when they come to T-Town!

You may well be right. I have guarded optimism and I think we CAN beat Bama. I'm not real excited about our only tough road game being in that damn small city you people call a stadium. I was more worried about the Ole Miss and UGA games going into this weekend than Bama. Not because I think either of those teams are better than Bama. Ole Miss proved that they're not as good as you guys and I'm pretty sure UGA wouldn't beat you either. I figured we'd become complacent and come out flat Saturday against Ole Miss and with the Right Reverend Nutt on the other sideline that possibility scared the hell out of me. I also figured UGA would be a tough one because of the Iron Bowl looming in the future. After watching the UGA/UF game I'm not that worried about it. They have to come to Jordan-Hare Stadium and the fans will make sure the players are hyped. I knew they wouldn't have a problem getting up for Bama, which is why I was more worried about the other games. Even if the opposing team is exponentially more talented, which I don't believe to be the case in the Iron Bowl, you can overcome that with the right attitude and the right intensity. We'd have that in Tuscaloosa. I'm not so sure UGA could beat Bama or Auburn's back-ups at this point.

After I say all of that watch UGA beat us. Such is my luck.

Auburn's only problem is Cam is the team. Pretty good problem is you ask me. Most other years defense wins championships, but with Auburn and Oregon on top defense will definitely not be winning any championships.

I'm floored that when I went to my computer this morning that Alabama is on the front of ESPN. Several bowl "experts" still have Alabama playing in the BCSCG. I'm shocked. Only thing I can assume is they have Alabama running the table. Ugh, that's difficult. I'm worried enough about LSU and can't for the life of me figure out how Alabama beats you-know-who.

Right now Alabama is getting lots of respect. Hope it isn't short lived.

I will not take anything away from Auburn right now. They are deserving of their ranking. For those who say they are overrated only time will tell. As of now they are undefeated and at this point they have all the marbles on the line. Hopefully when they come to our house we can humble them a little bit. It should be an epic showdown.

Eh, i think Auburn is pretty good, though they arent good or even decent all around as a team just yet, kinda like bama in 08. I think Auburn is just outmatched when they get here, kinda like we were with florida in 08

Not saying Auburn cant win though, we almost beat florida then too, its just i see more reasons bama is victorious than auburn is. Auburn needs to put about 40 on us to have a shot i think, and thatll be haaaaaaaaaaaaard. its the hardst matchup for you guys this season

Delta keep the faith....
National Camps are indeed made with or lost by defense. On average NC teams only allow 20 points or less to be scored on them. This year Bama's avg is 12.5 the barners avg 24 and some change. I know our secondary is young but after LSWho and Miss State we will be ready to shut the door on the barns dreams then on to Oregon. Me, I'm not worried. RTR!!!

Auburn and Oregon both deserve the credit that they are recieving. The offenses are fun to watch and extremely impressive.

However, the offenses can't score if they are on the sideline. The team that beats either Oregon or Auburn will be the one who can have sustained time consuming scoring drives. Any team that tries to get into a shootout with either team is going to bet burned IMHO. Alabama has the type of team that can beat either of them if they execute to their abilities. Either way the end of the season looks to be pretty interesting.
