šŸˆ Arkansas announces Sam Pittman as new head coach for football

This is one of the problems with the Arkansas job - real estate. No one will go into the job thinking they'll stay forever. If you buy a $3 million house, who can buy it when you leave? The only option is someone from the Walton family but they already have mansions.

Only a handful of those in the area per Realtor.com.

This one is way more appealing, but I'd gut the interior and go a completely different direction.

I know CSP was on CBB staff at Arkansas for a couple of years but this hire surprises me just a little. On one side I see the Hogs having a difficult time getting a "name coach" for many reasons. A person has to really want to be a head college football coach to take that particular job IMO. I am well aware of Frank Broyles and Bobby Petrino having success there and Nutt to some degree (native son). Pittman is going to have to lock down the state, recruit smart in Texas and Oklahoma and bring in a few kids from outside those areas to have success. Scratching my head on this one but I do wish him well.

Are times SO desperate in Hogville that they will rehire someone from a staff that was fired? Holy...shit!! Maybe they are just at that point. I'm trying to think of another situation where a program rehired a previously terminated coach, and nothing comes to mind. Sure, the argument can be made that Bielema was the one fired, but Pittman more or less went down with him. As alabama mike stated, someone would REALLY have to want to be a head coach to take this job. It reminds me of my former sister-in-law. Ever since she divorced my brother, she's been looking for that "home run guy", the one who is going to turn her situation around. And like the Arkansas job, someone would have to REALLY want to get married to get into her particular situation.

There will be an impact to UGA recruiting

The Hogs finally found someone that wanted the gig and the guy has been around the program. While it's not a huge hire it might be a solid hire down the road. UGA was killing it recruiting OL when Sam was the guy thus anything that hurts UGA is alright ovah at my house.

Arkansas: Missouri offensive line coach Brad Davis has accepted a position on Sam Pittman’s staff source tells FootballScoop. Bruce Feldman mentioned the move last night and several outlets in Arkansas reported it as well.

Bielema was fired following the 2017 season.
Pittman left Arkansas after the 2015 season. He was one of Kirby's first hires in Athens.

If there's one thing that accurately describes Pittman it's "players coach." He's one of those guys you hear people describe as "he's good people," ya know?

Thanks, Terry. I didn't know that Pittman had left prior to Bielema's firing. The hire makes a little more sense to me now, LOL.

I understand what you were thinking, believe you me. When we saw reports of Houston Nutt's name linked to the job it one of the "what the hell" moments of the coaching search season.
