A transferring Alabama receiver believes the school didn't properly utilize his skill set.

Alabama junior receiver Chris Black, who announced his intentions to transfer in December, is looking for a school that knows "how to utilize a slot guy."

Black, who arrived at Alabama higher rated than Amari Cooper, told Gridiron Nowhe wasn't properly utilized this season. He finished the season with only two catches for 23 yards after struggling with an ankle injury suffered in fall camp. Alabama shut him down for the season in November, with Nick Saban saying Black "did everything he could for the team" but wasn't able to get up to full speed.

Black disagrees.

"They never really gave me a chance to make it back into it," Black said.

In Black's absence, transfer receiver Richard Mullaney emerged as the go-to slot receiver and one of Jake Coker's favorite targets. Mullaney, who arrived from Oregon State, finished the season with 38 catches for 390 yards and five touchdowns. Despite Mullaney's 2015 success, Black told Gridiron Now he "always felt like the system didn't fit my type of skill set."

Black has been linked to Arizona State and Missouri, but has yet to announce where he'll be transferring. He previously told AL.com he hoped to make a decision in January and that he was eager to get somewhere and start producing again. Black, whose best season occurred in 2014 with 15 catches, should be eligible to play immediately and is looking for a school where he can "catch as many balls as I can."

"I feel like I've been caged for these past three years," he said. "Now, I'm ready to break out."

IF by skill set, he's referring to dropping the ball, his talent was utilized too often.

"How to use a slot guy" leaves Slottie Pippin saying, "WTF?"

Black had a chance to improve his status during summer workouts with other receivers and QB's. He also had a chance to impress the coaching staff during practices in August. Who was he going to replace in the lineup?

If you're injured, that is one thing but if you're unhappy bc of not getting reps, who's at fault? That's right boys and girls, it's the players fault. I wish him well in the future.

Perhaps you guys remember a different Chris Black than I do.

He's been a good representative of the University, I'll take Chris Black's side vs some writer who I don't know and who Gridiron Now doesn't even name as the author...

Yeah, I have never seen him bash Alabama. A buddy of mine is good friends with him and his family and they all love Alabama. I can understand a journalist taking things out of contact in efforts of getting a headline. Lord knows I'd be up 24-7 having to explain myself if I was in the public light. I think of him a lot like Dee Hart, and I hope we finds what he's looking for and can work towards his goals.

I feel for this kid. Been plagued with injuries and never got on track. Frankly, none of the "little guys" we've recruited over the years have had a lot of success... Him, Bradley Sylve, Jabriel Washington were all guys that were supposed to have that slot receiver type skill set.

I always thought he'd break through but it never happened. Doesn't help when we're signing guys like Cooper and Ridley either... That being said, I'd be surprised if he is a difference maker wherever he ends up. When they leave Bama, not much happens... Ely was the biggest success story I can think of.

Dee Hart did well at Colorado State as well. But yes, not many do anything.
