A transferring Alabama receiver believes the school didn't properly utilize his skill set.
Alabama junior receiver Chris Black, who announced his intentions to transfer in December, is looking for a school that knows "how to utilize a slot guy."
Black, who arrived at Alabama higher rated than Amari Cooper, told Gridiron Nowhe wasn't properly utilized this season. He finished the season with only two catches for 23 yards after struggling with an ankle injury suffered in fall camp. Alabama shut him down for the season in November, with Nick Saban saying Black "did everything he could for the team" but wasn't able to get up to full speed.
Black disagrees.
"They never really gave me a chance to make it back into it," Black said.
In Black's absence, transfer receiver Richard Mullaney emerged as the go-to slot receiver and one of Jake Coker's favorite targets. Mullaney, who arrived from Oregon State, finished the season with 38 catches for 390 yards and five touchdowns. Despite Mullaney's 2015 success, Black told Gridiron Now he "always felt like the system didn't fit my type of skill set."
Black has been linked to Arizona State and Missouri, but has yet to announce where he'll be transferring. He previously told AL.com he hoped to make a decision in January and that he was eager to get somewhere and start producing again. Black, whose best season occurred in 2014 with 15 catches, should be eligible to play immediately and is looking for a school where he can "catch as many balls as I can."
"I feel like I've been caged for these past three years," he said. "Now, I'm ready to break out."
