🏈 Anyone still concerned about Blake Sims?

Hello, my name is Bodean Cracker, and I am a Sims naysayer.

My slide into depravity began in the closing moments of the Sugar Bowl. Alabama, that great Sabanized juggernaut, was going to lose to Bob Stoops and his passel of convict wagon drivers.

Then AJ walked off the field in defeat. His final game in Crimson. His head was held high as he said farewell to the fans, and why not? He had accomplished much during his career at the house the Bear had built, and in the process he had kept me on a three year high.

Eventually, he carried his hopes and dreams to Cincinnati along with a seven figure contract and leggy bride. My hopes and dreams disappeared into the darkened tunnel of the Superdome.

"AJ is gone! He's really gone!" I repeated to anyone who would listen. "The Dynasty is crumbling!"

My obsession over the Alabama QB situation grew with each passing day. The grass in the yard went uncut. My car ended up on blocks. I began missing work. Sweetater, my wife, was not pleased with the lack of attention I was paying to personal matters.

"Get over it!" she exploded one day. "Why don't you get a girlfriend like most men your age, instead of obsessing over something you have absolutely no control over. You know Nick Saban is still the coach, right?"

Yes, I knew. But he seemed to need my help. The situation wasn't resolved. There was no heir apparent.

"Don't you guys still have Bill Simmons?" a concerned friend, an Ohio State fan, asked one day.

"His name is Blake Simmons," I said. "And, yes, he's still there. He's been there for fifteen years, but he's a backup quarterback. A clean-up guy. Saban allowed him to run a few plays when the game was firmly in hand. He's only played, like, three quarters."

"Well, maybe he'll develop enough to be effective," he said.

"Develop enough? He's been there fifteen years! If he was going to develop he'd done it now!"

There seemed to be no resolution, and my life continued to spiral out of control. News of Jake Coker's transfer provided a brief respite to my misery. Jimbo Fisher assured the Tide faithful that they were getting the best quarterback Alabama ever had, and we all know what a paragon of truthfulness Jimbo is. Better than Namath!? Stabler!? Even McCarron!? Oh, the joy! But word from T-Town soon doused my hope. Coker had a horrible spring, and his performance during the A-Day game was reminiscent of Sly Stallone's work in Stop! Or My Mom will Shoot!

"
We're done," I thought. "We'll be lucky to win 10 games! There's no hope!" My speech soon turned to babbling. I lost my job. My friends deserted me. The final straw for my wife came when she caught me wondering our neighborhood, wearing nothing but a hounds tooth hat and Roll Tide cowboy boots, knocking on doors and asking the residents if they had a spare quarterback I could borrow. She left with the kids and moved to a bay-side villa in Ft. Morgan with a gimpy old millionaire with tuberculosis. I was at the bottom of the barrel, and I wished for nothing more than my dvd of the 2013 National Championship Game.

Then Florida came to town. Their defense was touted as one of the best in the nation, and Blake Simmons was starting the game. I was miserable. I hated the thought of losing to Will Muschamp and his gang thugs. But I'm an Alabama fan, come what may.

Then Blake Sims hit Kenyon Drake deep for an 87 yard touchdown. On the opening play of the game! Suddenly everything was right in the world. Alabama has a quarterback. Sweetater is on the way home with the kids and I got my job back. The grass still needs cutting, though, but it can wait.

I'm on the road to recovery now. With the help of my sponsor and the RTB family, I will prevail.

I don't know if I should laugh or what to do. But, I know one thing and that is you need to get a goat to eat your grass. Thanks for the read I have really enjoyed it.

Blake Sims re: Sims naysayers ..

I had said in the beginning that I trusted whichever QB CNS ran out on the field. I was tickled to death to see Blake have the game he did. I think so many of us, myself included, had doubts based on what we had all seen in two Spring games with him under center. I'm happy that the kid stayed true to this University and worked his ass off.

I said earlier I hope I am wrong. So far, I'm dead wrong. That being said, Bama was supposed to beat Florida and they did. Sims showed he can hit wide receivers who are open, and he can do it when they are open deep. I'm still sorely afraid when he runs for real, like a running back. I wish he'd use his legs to extend plays and/or get out of bounds. He is going to be the man and continue to improve. He needs to stay healthy. He's thrown two picks and been involved in at least one of the fumbles. That's through four games. But you know, Bryant coached teams turned the ball over as well, probably as much as the Tide is now if not more.

Kudos to you Blake Sims.

If he shreds Ole Miss as well? Good Lord!!!!
