Saw this on espn... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/notebook?page=notebook/gamedayFinal081&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab4pos1 under "Three Weekend Observations"... curious if anyone knows if this was really part of a recruiting promise.

Clemson has two talented veteran tailbacks in James Davis and C.J. Spiller, yet the Tigers' first carry of the season went to true freshman Jamie Harper, a recruiting promise by coach Tommy Bowden. Alabama linebacker Cory Reamer stripped Harper, the Tide recovered at the Clemson 31 and converted the fumble into three points. "If he's here for three years, that's a thousand plays a year," Bowden said. "If he's here for 3,000 plays and I offer him one, that's a pretty good tradeoff."

Heck, I don't fault Bowden for that. Whatever it takes to get good talent.

If the media folks in SC want to say that was the difference maker, they can. But, that had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. The way we played, we'd have beaten them regardless.

Here is the quote from Tommy's press conference regarding if he would do that again:

"I did it for C.J., did it for James, did it for [former cornerback] Justin Miller... Those have been pretty productive players. You get 1,000 offensive snaps in one year. That fumble, what did they do, kick a field goal? We could've scored one touchdown and rectified that turnover.

"But to do that for a good player? Oh, man alive. Yeah. That fumble didn't lose the game. That was the first drive, second play of the game. We're down 6-0, a touchdown wins the game. Yeah, I'd do that."
