šŸ“ Anyone heard where we stand with Devonta Pollard?

My gut feeling is that we are the leader here. No guarantees, of course, but Grant did land Trevor Releford when Memphis and Kansas were both after him hot and heavy, and he got Trevor Lacey over kansas and Kentucky. He has a well earned reputation as a string recruiter.

Is he still coming for his visit this weekend?

Mike, the latest that I have seen (blog in Jackson paper yesterday) is that he will visit us this weekend, Georgetown next weekend, and then decide. Reports are that his mom really likes our staff, which will be a big factor in his decision. He does have a good relationship with the Georgetown assistant who is recruiting him.

The buzz now is that Pollard will announce/sign towards the end of next week. texas seems to be the primary competition now, but I still think we lead.

Is that something you've read, heard, or both Howard?

I've been told the staff just doesn't know right now. They do like their chances, but both he and his mom have played this close to the vest throughout the entire process.

In a conversation this morning me and a friend came to the conclusion it's as easy to guess what's happening as it is to actually know what's happening...other than when, where, etc. Georgetown was considered on the outside of his top four and slipping. When I saw one of their main recruiters has taken a job with LSU it's easy to assume they are off the list.

Mizzou is in the picture but they are bringing in at least four transfers if I recall correctly. Space?

Texas? They're left as we are. I don't know what kind of situation he'd be stepping into at Texas. Anyone?

He's in good shape here. Randolph, Releford, and Steele on the perimeter...he'd get his looks, and probably some good ones off the drives. PT is there.

Terry, I've both read and heard on this. The person I've talked to is usually a pretty good source, and he is saying what I told you the other day. Unfortunately I don't have a source close to the family like I did with Lacey.

PT is definitely there for Pollard. The staff has to be concerned with rebounding with Green and Mitchell gone. Even though there will be times where we play big, with jacobs at the 4 and Gouye/Engstrom at 5, there will be times where matchups will force us to use a quicker player at 4. I like Rodney Cooper, but I'm not excited about the prospect of him playing a lot of minutes as a 4. He is a natural 3 (Mitchell without the attitude and with a 3 point shot).

Pollard's mom has said she'd like for him to be somewhere close to home so she can see him play, but she has also said she will let him make hisown decision. If distance from home is a factor for him, obviously Tuscaloosa is much closer than either Columbia or Austin.

Grant said the other day that he probably would not give the three scholarships he could this time, so it may be Pollard or no one. (Of course there may be another European lurking that we know nothing about.) CAG recruits a lot closer to the vest than CMG did.

A bit of an update. Missouri has added a 13th scholarship player, so that takes them out of the running. When (assistant coach ) Kirby left Georgetown that likely took them out of the picture. LSU, now with Kirby, is trying to get in to the picture, but no signs that they are. Texas is still in. Not even a good rumor about when he will announce/sign. Apparently his HS coach has gotten frustrated with the situation, as he announced last week that future announcements would come through the family.

Howard, you know how many scholly's LSU has to give?

Yesterday, they received a commitment from JUCO forward Calvin Godfrey. Looks like a great pick-up for them.

Terry, from my quick reckonong they have at least one more to give. Three seniors leaving (Bass, Warren, White) and Justin Hamilton entering the NBA draft. They have given three so far, counting the kid yesterday,

One of our subsidiaries happens to be in Louisiana and I threw the same question at the Sports Director down there yesterday. According to what he feels, LSU isn't in the picture anymore.

IF he's correct, that leads me to believe it's down to two, UA and TX.

Early signing period ends, what, next Weds.? We'll know for sure soon...

(FWIW, he also suggested—and made sure to say it was his opinion—he thought there was a "prima donna" in the mix.
