Anyone ever had a Toyota Highlander or a 4Runner?

What year are you talking about? i drive a 2002 Highlander V6. It's surprisingly decent on gas mileage for a V6. I average around 24 MPG if I keep my foot off the floor. It hasn't given me any issues and I've owned it for about 3+ years now. I have retrofitted my headlights with Lexus LS430 HID projectors which is a nice thing to have at night as they emit a super wiiiide beam pattern. Mine will be going to the wife as our family car in about a year and I'll probably buy me a used newer Acura TL or BMW 3-series later on. But I have no complaints with the Highlander. A coworker has one of the newer ones and they are real nice and alot larger. Mine still has plenty of room to haul pretty much anything you'd need on the inside and I've added a hitch to pull my 5x8 trailer with the dirt bike on it. Pulls great too.

I had a 1990 4 runner. I had it about 12 years and put 350k miles on it and never had any problems. I sold it and bought a dodge durango and and wish everyday I had that 4 runner back and that dodge would burn. LOL

It's all about quality of ride in my opinion.

The 4-runner is built on its own frame, but rides a lot like a pick-up truck.

If I'm not mistaken, the Highlander is built on the Camry frame.

While both are considered SUV's, it's really apples and oranges.

We had a 2005 Toyota 4Runner with the V6. If you're thinking about a lot model 4Runner, they also offered a V8. Before I purchased, I wanted to know if there was any difference in the 8 versus the 6. Basically, the 8 offers a bit more towing capacity, and slight gas mileage penalty. Horsepower is close to the same on both vehicles. Unless you're towing a lot, the 6 will do just fine. Smooth engine, quick acceleration, 20 mpg pretty consistently. Good fit and finish, comfortable for a truck-ish suspension.

The argument that truck frames ride more stiff than car frames is valid, but face it: when was the last time you got in a nice, newer model truck and felt like the ride was all that uncomfortable? Trucks nowadays are every bit as nice as a sedan.

We got rid of our 4Runner when the lease ended, just for financial reasons. The vehicle was awesome, and I'd buy again.
