Vinnie is one of my favorite players from the last few years. Hate it for him and the team and wish him a speedy recovery. Saying that it's going to be hard to replace his leadership and knowledge but Landon has impressed me big time this year on his speed and range. He is a blast to watch, I feel a little better knowing we have him even though he doesn't have near the experience Vinnie has.

^^ For those dont remember the story, "Last year my first pick came on the same day as his first pick and his second pick came on the same day as my second pick," Sunseri said after Tuesday's practice. "My mom was calling us peanut butter and jelly. She said we go good together. We're a little different, but we go good with each other."

Vinnie was becoming alot of peoples favorite player, all heart. Reminds me alot of Rashad Johnson. Not incredibly fast, not incredibly big, not incredibly strong... but tough as hell, smart, a play maker, with a huge heart that just gets the job done.

What we know: Starting strong safety Vinnie Sunseri is lost for the season with an anterior cruciate injury to his right knee. Sunseri led the team with six passes defended and was second in pass break-ups up with four. He also had two interceptions returned for touchdowns.

What this means: The biggest thing it means is that Landon Collins is now a starter. For the better part of two seasons, fans continued to ask when Collins would break the starting lineup. Well, his time has come. Collins is a physical players just like Sunseri. What is yet to be determined is what kind of instincts he has. Sunseri may have had the best instincts on the team. That's a benefit of being a coach's son. Another area in which Sunseri thrived was in leadership. That's not something a new starter can just pick up. However, Collins has played a lot this season so it's not as if he is completely new to this position.

This is the second season-ending injury to the safety position. Nick Perry sustained a shoulder injury earlier in the season. This provides an opportunity for some not as experienced players to step up. Jai Miller is one of those guys. The 6-foot-3, 213-pounder will see his late-game reps increased if the opportunity presents itself. It's also worth noting that Geno Smith has worked some at safety as has Maurice Smith. And don't forget about Jarrick Williams, who has played excellent at the Star position. Williams could shift back to safety if needed and Smith could slide to Star.
