šŸˆ Antonio Alfano no longer on roster, reported in the transfer portal

He was a top 10 recruit with sites listing him at 6'4" and weighing 285 when he's a 6'2" guy that may be hitting 260. Normally, you can expect a top 10 guy to contribute immediately. We all know that's what he's heard on the recruiting trail.

Now what we're left with is a guy who is living in that world; the play immediately world. Reality is the guy on campus needs a red shirt year.

It's not hard to see how "I should be playing" versus "you aren't ready to play" creates a problem.

Compare that to Sopsher. He's not ready and certainly wasn't when he arrived. But he's been working. The same can't be said for Alfano.

I thought he was a Day 1 guy after what we heard at Spring Camp. What changed?

Looks like he is now in the transfer portal. His grandmother is very sick. This is a tweet from his father.

Players have learned to have a "catastrophic reason" for entering the portal so they can be eligible ASAP. His reason to request a transfer isn't because of his grandmother but he's using it to justify the transfer. The only D1 football programs within 100 miles of his home are Temple and UConn. I don't think he'll go to Princeton or Yale.

Antonio Alfano asks to enter transfer portal, per his parents

I’ve received many messages from the media regarding Antonio. It’s too bad that most of the media only reach out when there’s potentially bad or negative news.

I’m confident my following response will answer all of your questions:
Antonio’s grandmother recently fell very ill and is still fighting on life support. He is very close with her. Since this illness took effect, Antonio has taken it very hard. He has not attended classes and practices.
The University of Alabama has been extremely supportive and I couldn’t ask for better support from them.

Yesterday, Antonio asked to be placed in the transfer portal to see what his options are.
Although he’s in the transfer portal, he still can decide to remain at the University of Alabama.

My opinion is that Antonio should stay at the University of Alabama. However he’s an adult and it’s his decision.

Antonio knows that his family has & will always be there for him.

Nick will roll the dice on a talented player in each recruiting cycle, Hell 20% of the players signed in each class never play a meaningful down so why not take a chance with one or two. Then again you don't allow these type of players to disrupt the team with their BS. I expect most Bama fans are upset that the guy is a 5* instead of the fact he can't even get on the field and help the team.

Hey, shit happens in life, so I understand his dilemma. I can't fault him for opening up his options, but just like Saban preaches, don't make a decision based off the present, base it off the next four to five years (editing the message a little due to college transfer), or twenty years. I am very VERY close to my Mimi, my last grandparent, but I would never make a life altering decision based off her immediate bad health. When she is gone, I still have a life to live and support myself through.
