UDPATE: Tide's Caldwell staying at Alabama

By Christopher Walsh

TUSCALOOSA | University of Alabama junior offensive lineman Antoine Caldwell announced Monday that he would be staying at UA and not entering the NFL Draft a year early.

The 6-foot-3, 292-pounder from Montgomery started the first seven games for Alabama, as well as the season finale against Auburn and the Independence Bowl against Oklahoma State. He missed four games as Alabama investigated Caldwell's role in an improper receipt of textbooks issue. Missing the Tennessee game snapped Caldwell's string of 32 consecutive starts.

Caldwell, who has started games at center, guard and tackle during his college career, was named to the 2007 second-team All-SEC team, and was named a permanent captain for the 2007 season.

Caldwell earned his bachelor's degree in human environmental sciences in under three years, the first Alabama player to do so in that span. He is working on a master's degree in financial planning.

More on Caldwell's decision later Monday at www.tidesports.com.

sounds like someone wanted to attention....

At least it's not negative attention or bad publicity. Keeping guys for their senior season and further their education and draft stock is all positive. Good for AC, Bama and recruites and their parents. Very positive in fact.

Also, I very seriously doubt it was Caldwell's idea to even hold the PC.

There are more positives here than meets the eye. Leadership is key to our success and a graduate senior is a great story for character.

This is as good as getting a great recruit IMO

ROLL TIDE!!! I also think this is a great move for him and for the team and the potential teammates/commits. LEadership is a huge thing the program gains from this as well as a good, talented, experienced player. Wonderful news!!
