šŸˆ Angry with small crowd, Nick Saban says Alabama students not 'entitled to anything'

The SEC didn't have many 11am games prior to the SECN if I remember correctly. I don't expect to see 11am games go away either.

All we can do is hope that the opponents get better so we stop playing at 11am.

Surely you remember the old Jefferson Pilot days!!
I was about to say... You forgot about the three Dave's?

What incentive do students AND fans (because let's be real, it's not just students coming late and leaving early) have to come, and to stay?
A few things.

A witness to the greatest run in college football.

Support. Saban took the route due to olayer comments.

An important note.

Fans and students are not the same. As a student, I was a season ticket holder. I can safely say I see this from two perspectives.

Saban, nor I, have the right to say anything to a Tide Pride member. It's their money, how they spend it is their business.

In spite of student fees, they are not in the same category.

In the same sense that I don't care for undue and unfair criticism to players, coaches are a different category as well. They are paid.

Music and even game times can be changed. Heck, heat can even be "changed" by scheduling more night or late afternoon games or installing something like misting stations around the stadium. Why not?
Do you want to go back to the days of pay-per-view?

No. Game times can't be changed if you want them to be televised. As example, CBS can only show one team a certain number of Saturdays each year.

If music is a problem wear headphones, ear plugs, or something. And I watch the bands on ESPN3, FWIW.

People would complain a lot about the three Dave's, but I would quickly bring up the idea about Beth Mowin calling a game. They quickly shut up.

And when it comes to content, Beth is better than all of them.

I have to admit that I have the volume down to zero when I watch Bama play. That drives my wife crazy and she goes to the bedroom and watches. I just don't care to listen to all the bullshit for 3 hours.

I agree with a lot mentioned here. However it stood out more than normal as there was so much focus given to the Penn State vs Ohio state game. I'm sorry but the Penn state crowd was amazing. I hate Penn state but was jealous of the atmosphere they had on national TV. Saban thinks of everything and is always thinking about recruiting. When you have past (Now NFL) and current players saying they are dissapointed in the crowd noise and atmosphere at the stadium and then recruits see how Penn State was....It makes a difference. Plus we will need the crowd noise later in the year when it means something and Saban is setting the stage. However these opponents have been garbage and the home schedule is terrible and with the heat...and crappy 11:00 times its just a bad combo.....

What's a worse brand of entitlement?

1. Leaving early from a game with a ticket you own (either via purchase or paid dues) because your team is too good

2. Telling people what they are and aren't entitled to with their own time and purchases

It truly is the age of entitlement. We all know millennials are an entitlted and crying bunch. But College football coaches are by far some of the biggest offenders...

Nick Saban is trying to keep his team motivated and would welcome the support of ALL the fans. He is paid for doing a good job. Personally I don't give a shit what those students do or don't. I am glad he called them out but now that he has he shouldn't mention it again. JMO but I would allow the students to sell their tickets to anybody and those folks be allowed into those sections. Lets get azz's in seats.

@TerryP, like you, I had season tickets as a student and I never left early. When I was a Tide Pride member, I left early lots of times, usually mid way of the 4th quarter, but only if the game was already decided. I never left early when the game could have went either way.

Once I get thru the Tuscaloosa traffic, it's still a 3 hour drive for me to get home. The older I get, the more I hate driving 3 hours to see a ball game. And I know that has nothing to do with the thread topic but that's another problem with getting older, my mind wanders more.

Telling students what? No one is telling them what to do with their time. They got the ticket.

Why? I get what you're saying but there are students there that want the tickets

Those that don't wish to go should be able to go or sell to someone just like you or I that had tickets could.

I thought he was saying that the students aren't entitled to an allotment of tickets. That the university could decide to sell that area previously allotted for students to customers on a first come first serve basis in an effort to seat more passionate spectators that may be inclined to stay the entire game.

That makes perfect sense to me. The students may not leave if they have to do a little work for the ticket, and if they're not willing to they are probably the same students that leave at half so great. Mission accomplished. I agree with coach; its an embarrassing ordeal for the program.

I only doubt CNS's ability to start the correct QB, use his timeouts before half, and evaluate a kicker. Everything else he is usually spot on.
:D

This story made its way to CFB Live yesterday and Maria Taylor brought it up in a segment titled "In bounds or out of bounds." Desmond thought it was well within Saban's right to ask more of the students. And, as these shows go, Pollack had a dissenting view.

It was David's opinion that Saban should do something about the problem and he had two suggestion: free money and free pizza. Maria suggested middle and high school kids (which in itself isn't a bad suggestion despite no need.)

Remember back in the lat 50's when Bama had band day where HS banks members could get into the games or something near that.

Students are allowed five games missed (card not swiped) before their tickets are taken away. Students are walking over to these games, swiping their card, and then leaving the game. Those tickets could be used because there are students who want to attend but don't have tickets. People can't seriously expect the administration to have a voice when students are clearly taking advantage of the system and by their own actions denying others the opportunity to attend games.
How are student tickets allotted? Do they pay at all, is it a lottery system, or a mix of the two?
