Shawn Jennings of Dadeville High School announced his commitment on Tuesday night to Alabama. He will join brother Anfernee, a defensive end who signed with Alabama in 2015.

Jennings is a three-star recruit on the 247Sports composite rankings. He said he will play safety at the college level, though he could grow into a linebacker. Up until this season, Jennings had been Dadeville's starting quarterback.

Jennings' final three schools were Alabama, Auburn and Memphis. Jennings is Alabama's 19th commitment for the 2016 class.

Shawn Jennings, three-star safety from Dadeville High School in Ala., announced his commitment via Twitter on Tuesday night.

"I would like to take this time to thank everyone who has helped me become the man I am today," Jennings posted in a message on Twitter. "Also thanks to all the coaches who have put forth the effort in recruiting me. Now it's time I make a decision on my own and get back to worrying about high school football and working to get one of my goals and that's competing for a state championship..I want to thank all the people that made this happen for me as my family and my coaches and also my teammates , most of all I would like to thank God! But at this time I would like to announce that the college I will be committing to is the university of Alabama #rolltide"

Jennings spoke with TideSports shortly after revealing the news about his decision.

"It has always been one of my dream schools," he said. "My brother is there. I love what Nick Saban does. The NFL basically looks at what he does. I know it will be best for my future if I go there."

"I told Coach Kirby (Smart) about my decision yesterday. He asked me if I was ready to roll with the Tide. It feels great to be committed. It's a big relief off of me. I am ready to start football again."

His older brother, Anfernee Jennings, is a former four-star defensive end who signed with Alabama in the 2015 class.

"He was happy," Jennings said. "He was glad. He is happy I was ready to start football and get this out of the way."

"It's all about the relationship I have with the coaches," Jennings said of Alabama. "It feels like home to me. It's a great school. Alabama recruited me the hardest. Kirby Smart keeps in touch with me all the time."

Jennings becomes commitment No.19 for Alabama. He joins a two other defensive backs in the Crimson Tide's class, Shyheim Carter, Rivals100 cornerback from Kentwood High School in La., and Joshua Perry, three-star safety from Amite High School in La. Jennings is recruited by Alabama to play safety or outside linebacker.

The 6-foot-2, 217-pound athlete stars on his high school team at quarterback and safety. He committed to Alabama instead of offers from Auburn and Memphis. He was recruited by Alabama defensive coordinator, Kirby Smart. He is ranked the No.36 safety in the country by Rivals.com.

Shawn Jennings, three-star safety from Dadeville High School in Ala., announced his commitment on Tuesday evening. Dadeville head coach Richard White breaks down the newest member of the Crimson Tide's 2016 class.

"He's a heck of an athlete," said Coach White. "He is really smart in the secondary. He gets everyone in the right place. He also plays quarterback for us. He does a great job. He is an all-around great player.

"Everyone can improve something. He plays strong safety for us. We don't run a complex system. He always knows where to be. He's just a good football player.

"He needs to get stronger in the weight room. Once he gets in a college system they will develop him and put weight on him. He may end up being an outside linebacker. It would be a new position for him, but he is a quick learner."

The coach has a lot of praise for the 6-foot-2, 216-pound athlete off-the-field.

"He is a quiet, reserve kid," White stated. "He has never given me an ounce of trouble. He comes from a good family. His mother keeps him in check. He has respect from his teammates. He is not a vocal guy, but more of a silent leader."

Jennings will join his brother, Anfernee Jennings as a member of the University of Alabama football team.

A lot of talk about his ranking being low because he was playing quarterback. The staff must feel that when he devotes everything to being a DBack. Sounds pretty good to me.
