| FTBL Andy Staples sits down with DeBoer... [added another interview from today with Josh Pate]

I get the feeling that he's tired of these same interviews.

I don’t know if it’s the interviews, but if I were him I’d be tired of the same questions being asked. @bamafan4ever said it, but he gets peppered with many of the same questions over and over… I was a little surprised that Pate (who is well prepared and through) threw out several that DeBoer had already answered.

Good point, @bamafan4ever. Don't get me wrong, I don't think there was a better option to replace Saban, and I'm optimistic actually about our future. And I didn't think I'd be after such a historic run. But I'm just saying I haven't been impressed with any of his public speaking engagements, beginning with his introduction. He just doesn't project what Saban did. You go back and compare Saban's introductory speech with his. Again, I don't think it means Deboer won't succeed.

He is different but doesn't mean bad. Of course we all loved CNS. I prefer a little more in you face challenging talk but if CKD wins and he has shown he does who cares? Certainly his track record is night and day from Shula.

I don't think
I'll argue you didn't think. 🙃

I guess we'll call this second hand knowledge. There is a positive aura he carries. Like I've said time and time...it's a significant change.

When people walk by him in the hallway of the Bryant building the focus is still there: but they are smiling.

but they are smiling.

Easily misunderstood phrase. Don't take it the wrong way.

There's a fine line between hate and love. Both are driven by passion. You are making a mistake by not taking into account the passion he has for the game.

What motivates you? Would a different managerial style affect the outcome?

You don't get to be 104-12 without what?

Let's go back to managerial for a second...

How well has this transition gone?

There's more than one way to peel an orange. All roads lead to Rome: how are they paved? More than one way to crack an egg. Or cook one.

You don't get to be 104-12 without what?

There are multiple ways to win with a team on and off the field. You're right, we got used to things being a certain way that obviously worked, so we are skeptical of anything else. I think he's doing what it takes. With guys staying on board (for the time being), recruits getting re-offered and interest gaining, Ryan Williams recommitting, I think he's doing just fine.

Take your ass to the basement and make my hats.

Casey, Darrin and I are going out in an hour. The wind is "kicking" right now. One of us will be wet.

I'm taking my cast net. On my kayak. You want to see the results?

Blackwater trout are hitting.

HIgh Tide is 3:48.

I would like to see the results of a cast net from a kayak. If you aren't in the water or tangled, I will be thoroughly impressed!

I was only stating my impression from his public appearances. I wasn't pretending to know anything about him. People project different attributes in different ways. Saban looks and carries himself with confidence, and he speaks authoritatively, despite being diminutive. CKB isn't as fluent and articulate of a speaker and is more soft-spoken, as I said reminding me of Shula who was of similar build and stature. But it could just be his style, or he could change as he acclimates to his new surroundings. Again, I've made no judgements on his job so far or his potential, other than saying I'm optimistic.

You based all of that in one video?

Listening to his interviews from few months ago, that's definitely not the vibe i'm getting.

My point...he reeks confidence in the buidling. There are a lot who couldn't. Look it up. I'm pretty sure AL.com still has the article I wrote when I said "fire shula" in November of 05. '05. Undefeated, and I was all about firing him.

I'll certainly admit if I'm wrong here. What Bruce said about the basketball team applies to the football team

Well that’s awesome to hear!
Undefeated, and I was all about firing him.
I met Shula at a Red Elephant Club meeting in my hometown, all pumped and excited to not only meet the new Bama HC, but one of the earliest Bama QBs I remember watching on TV as a kid. Man, I left completely disappointed with his personality and uninspired about his leadership.

No one will like this.

He was Bo Pix in a Bama shirt.

No. I’m pretty sure I already indicated appearances [plural] since taking the Bama job. Not a large sample size, I admit. And I haven’t watched him at all before arriving at Bama.
We had the Sportsbook here in 2020. I put Fresno State games in weekly: sure thing. (Yeah, I cheated a bit.) In '19 when he was at Indiana I pointed to that team A LOT. Freaked me out. Indiana.

We have watched him. You just didn't realize.
