🏈 GAME THREAD 🏈 WEEK SEVEN: NCAA / SEC Games of the Week:

Last week if you had asked me who I thought the worst teams were in P4 this season two would have been in my top five: if not the top two.

UCLA, who beat Penn State last weekend.
Northwestern, who plays Penn State this weekend.

Rutgers would be in the conversation. They play Friday night and there's something interesting about that game.

From Wednesday night through Friday night there are eight nationally televised games. Only one has a point spread that's greater than 7: Rutgers at Washington.

If chalk holds these next few days there will be some close ball games to watch.

The "M's."

I mentioned in the preview thread for Mizzou they haven't left their home stadium this season. It dawned on me a few minutes ago looking at Mississippi's schedule: 3/4's of their schedule is played in the state of MS. Miami doesn't leave Florida until next month.

A hat tip to those schools AD's. They saw the conference schedule and said, "aight."

(Anyone want to do some math? Has Penn State traveled more miles on one weekend than some Ole Miss players will in two seasons?)

That's a weird story
It's Auburn on one level and on another level it's weird just to post that. (Perhaps avoid the second thought and refer back to the first.)

It's weird because it draws attention to the losses. It's Auburn because this feels just like the other times we've seen talking points fed to their recruiting site beat writers.

Auburn may bring a challenge to UGA. Logic tells us AU will be 0-3 in the conference Sunday morning.

It's been 20 years since I watched a practice in Norman. This doesn't shock me. At that time the walk from their locker room to the practice fields was about the same distance as walking from the Mal Moore building to the stadium. I saw some walking, some in golf carts, some in cars and the backs of pick-up trucks. The practice fields? They were indistinguishable from YMCA playing fields in Detroit.

That said, I played golf almost two weeks in a row with the temps that fall that were 100+. So, I'm throwing a flag here on the 90 degree bit. They are trying to be coy and I can't blame them.

I think Wednesday is the first injury reports for the SEC. Mateer, questionable. Bet ya. Based on what Cubelic said about Hawkins and his performance last weekend? If I were Venables I'd hide him inside.

49 straight days of football begin tonight with Liberty playing the later game. They'll also be in one of three games scheduled next Tuesday night.

If chalk holds these next few days there will be some close ball games to watch.
Six games over the last two days and half of them were decided by three points or less; four of the six by within one score.

Ranked, media darling South Florida is on the road tonight at N. Texas...and N. Texas is giving a couple of points. (Haven't looked to see what it is this morning.) Seems weird to me.
