How so? His freshman year he was backing up Waddle, last season Williams.

I'm not saying he has failed, I'm stating with his measurables he would have seen the field more. Are him and Brooks not playing the same position? He came in for Williams in the Auburn game and not Holden from what I remember. I just thought he would have been out there more last season. He has major breakout ability to me, so I was just curious why we haven't heard more about him.

Last fall we talked about how guys were fitting into the three wide set. I used Metchie(X) as an example of a guy who could also play outside(Z)—Jameson's role—but we wouldn't see the opposite—Jameson in a Metchie(X) role.

In the situation you're referring to from last year it's which of those two were the best at filling Metchie's role. Holden, like Jameson, playing a Metchie(X) role wasn't "the play." He's a Z guy.

Can a guy like Leary play X? If so, that's one to watch if Hall's situation doesn't improve.

We may see a Za and Zb with the two. 🤷‍♂️

Kendrick Law's name comes up in yesterday's presser along with Saban talking about how infrequently we see true freshman who can play multiple positions.

He's another of these short guys.

He's done a nice job. He's a guy that can play multiple positions. But he has done a really good job at receiver. He's got some speed. He's got some size. He runs good routes. He's got really good hands. And he's picked up on things and sort of has the right mindset to be able to deal with some of the frustrations young players go through when they're trying to learn a system and they make more mistakes than they're used to. But he plays through it and he's made a lot of plays. He's a guy that might be able to help us if he continues to develop.

I wasn't surprised to hear that. Many have said he would try at WRs... I still think he ends up Safety before career is over. Kid can play. I would imagine They're cross training him for two spots right now... WRs now and another position this fall.

That doesn't click with me. He'd be opening the door for "why isn't Law at WR" in the fall. We don't see position specific praise from Saban on a guy that's going to switch positions, do we?

In that presser, Saban also said they don’t train them at multiple positions as a freshman. It is too much to learn and they aren’t ready for that.

With the mash up at WR, who will be our speed demon to take the top off the defensive secondary? With our recent history of great WR, it seemed that Williams was our lone guy to really do it consistently last year. I had hopes of Earle being like Waddle. Super quick, but fast enough in a dead out sprint to put pressure on the DB's and Safeties.

I think we are hoping Burton could come in and be our speed guy like Williams. Aaron Anderson is fast, but he's like 5'9, so his size may be a difference in how he is used compared the Jameson. Leary isn't big either, so I have to believe we are lacking the size we want at that speed.

Earl, Anderson, and Preston are all three burners, and more of the size of Waddle. I have to believe there are options there between the three to get some production out of the position. That little seven yard slant/drag across the middle behind the linebackers was deadly when Waddle would catch it and then beat every angle the defense took on him.

I need to correct myself. I meant to say switch position within a year or so.. not this year. The position I was talking about was CB.
"While Law lines up all over the football field on Friday nights, with success at running back, wide receiver, return man and on defense, it's his physical traits and intellect that combine for the nickel nod. Also a track standout with a 10.48-second 100 meter dash time to his name, the Louisianan is among the nation's most explosive prospects and the strength is only improving. Whether on tape or this offseason at various events, his play-making and football IQ are often on display from breaking on the ball to getting his teammates lined up. Law has linebacker physicality and cornerback speed, with ball skills, plus technique and a certain savvy about him at the same time."
