🏈 🏈 FALL CAMP 2019 🏈 Tide preps for season opener

Hearing coach compare Christian Harris to other past freshmen like CJ, Rolando, and Hightower was really encouraging. Saban said sometimes you have to put the talent out there and see what they have. I hope simplicity is our theme this year. Playing defense is basically a reactive affair and should be easier to learn.

Ford going down looked worse than an ankle when it happened.
C Harris beside Moses looked GOOD!!!
Couple guys left early, possibly because of the heat I would assume.
King Mwikuta will be in the mix outside! Coach says he goes a 1000 mph but not always in the right direction.
Eboigbe looked good and will contribute on DL. He was there in place of Ray.
Mathis looked good as well.
Byron Young looked good. Young talent should provide DL depth.
OL - WOW!!! Plethora of talent! Problem is choosing only 5 to run out there! Leatherwood, Neal, Dickerson, Ekiyor and Wills in the first line.
Waddle- DAMN!!! Kid is David Palmer with lightning speed!!! He could play tag in a phone booth and not be touched!
Giles Amos at TE made several catches. Latu seems to have made the transition at TE as well and seems to be his natural position. Billingsley at TE is simply RAW. Coach mentioned him playing in the Chicago area HS and being talented but needed some refinement.
Townsend had some nice runs on the day.
Shivers had several nice catches.

I’M READY!!!!

Thanks for the updates, fellas!

The C. Harris at MLB thing kinda came outta left field for me! But I'm pumped. If a true frosh is beating out a couple of other talented more experienced dudes thats a great sign for him. Not to mention Shane Lee in the mix.

Getting excited about some of the youngsters on the DL also! Eboigbe is a name I'll have to learn to pronounce quickly lol.

Great to hear Waddle is up to his old tricks! I look at what that little dude at Purdue did last season as a frehsman... Waddle would have been the same thing and most schools. Our top 4 receivers are just ridiculous. He's as dangerous as anyone

Any word on when Foristall will be back? Like to hear Amos is doing good things... Holding out hope Foristall will be a weapon as well.

Sounds like Owens may be that inside backup OL that is so needed. When Brown comes back, he will have his hands full if other dudes are stepping up!

Thanks again for the info! RTR

Top 5. Metchie is going to be a household name.

Adding to that...I've heard, a few times, how Shavers is coming along. On more than one occasion I've had people mention his seam routes. He's progressing pretty well. In a four wide, forcing defenses to play zone, it's a threat.

It's about the best five but I gotta admit...I love the idea of these guys with Womack at RG (held out today.) Heck, even if Brown takes the job mid-season it's a hell of a front.

I know I've been harping on how I thought Neal was going to be one that's hard to keep off the field but good lord I didn't think he was this ready.

Without trying to read too much into this statement I can't help but think when we've heard Saban say such about the offense. It's certainly not common.

Yes this is out of character for Saban. I have never heard him say he was felt good about any group or even player. Always tempers it with areas where improvement is needed. Getting soft in his older days?lol

imagine a heavy line on 3rd and short or goal line situations with someone like , who I prefer, for his experience, and attitude, as much as anything, with another big nasty at the tide end and another big nasty lined up at fullback. Who is going to stop that?

I'm not sure you can go wrong with any of Ekiyor, Womack, or Deonte Brown at RG once Brown is back. All 3 are huge and can move people.

If nothing else it speaks to the depth. This OL goes 9 deep for sure and likely 10

Nothing has changed in Saban's system in the last 12 years. It's not a matter of simplicity. It's a matter of assignment football. If they know their assignments, it is simple.

@UAgrad93, last night and this morning I've found myself chuckling and shaking my head a few times.

We're seeing a lot of people getting pumped up about the progression of the interior linebacking corps. Coincidently, a lot of the same people who were complaining about Golding are the same ones lauding the younger guys.

From what I've learned the defensive guys are a lot farther along this time this year than they were last season at the same time. You went to the scrimmage last year, didn't you? You'll recall wide receivers running wide open all day. We aren't seeing that this year. The coverage this fall compared to last is an apples and oranges comparison. Far, far less confusion from sideline to huddle as well.

  • communication is better this year than last
  • coverage is better this year than last
  • pass rush is better this year than last
  • blown assignments are down by a large degree
I don't like hearing CNS complain about missed tackles but I have to balance that against where they are: second scrimmage, mental exhaustion, and we all know these guys are tired. Then again, you and I talked last season about how Locks was stressing ball security in the fall and we were both looking at his comments with a raised eyebrow. That wasn't an issue with the running backs last year. Hopefully, we're in the same boat with tackles. (boat, tackle, might as well go fishing this afternoon.)

A note this morning informed me that a lady in Canada had her thermostat coming on last night. We know that hasn't happened in Tuscaloosa.

"Monday, Alabama's players unwittingly built a case for why the Crimson Tide defensive coordinator is deserving of an honor given to college football's top assistant coach.

It was after another outstanding defensive performance in Alabama's Iron Bowl victory last Saturday that outside linebacker Ryan Anderson made an unsolicited observation.

"Coach Pruitt has simplified a lot of stuff and it allows you to go play fast," the senior said. "You don't have to think so much."

"Coach Pruitt, he does a great job at simplifying things for us to make sure that when we go out there on Saturday there's not much confusion on the field and making sure everybody's on the same page," linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton said. "So I just applaud him for being a good defensive coordinator and helping us out."

Pruitt's impact -- making more out of less -
- is one of the many reasons why he's still being considered for an award that goes to the nation's best assistant coach.

Less to think about Terry. The end result is they play faster, more instinctive. If you are halfway paying attention to the player's comments this is what you hear. They are being freed up, especially with these HUNH spread teams. Simpler is simpler.
I'm paying attention to what they said. From the horses mouth, "terminology."

Saban touched on it in the past few weeks when discussing the 10 personnel comments in the presser. The same terminology wasn't being used throughout the team. As another example, what can be relayed in to the huddle in three words versus, say six.

You are right in that simpler terminology led to quicker reactions. One of the reasons Pruitt was better than Kirby "on the fly" was due to those changes. 12's right though. Schematically, we're still watching the same defense.
