🏈 🏈 FALL CAMP 2019 🏈 Tide preps for season opener

During the scrimmage, King was in for plays than just obvious passing situations. He was running with the 2's for a good portion of the scrimmage and then 1's in dime rabbits.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about him. Watching some of the videos, he's actually a longer version of what I imagined on signing day. Just saying, at the least, even behind Lewis and Jennings he could be one of those we have a package for on game day.

He's taller than Williams and Upshaw. More along the lines of TL's frame.

Those are shoes very, very few can wear. His football acumen coming out of high school is close to generational. I'm not knocking King here, but Upshaw is a high standard.

That's the very reason my ears perked up. To me, that comparison would be like seeing a receiver and saying "this kid could be the next Julio."

Physically, what are his measurables? More along Tim Williams line, or Upshaw? Both of those guys were great pass rushers, just distinctly different body types.

Upshaw - 6'2", 250 lbs.
Williams - 6'4", 230
King - 6'5", 243 lbs.

Little bit more length than both of them but similar girth to Courtney. The thing with Courtney wasn't just his pass rush, though. Guy did all the dirty work that you don't think of a guy that's a "pass rusher" being able to do. He is one of the more underrated aspects of that 2009-11 defense IMO, at least underrated by fans.

Forgive me as I have not read through this entire thread, but any word on Antonio Alfano? I read he was dealing with a family matter. Being that he's from another state, are we looking at him transferring out? Just curious. Thanks in advance.

No one can answer that. What you said is all we know right now.

— Freshman inside linebacker Christian Harris appeared to be limited and not participating in individual drills. He was wearing a brace on his left knee.

— With Harris not participating, Shane Lee lined up next to Dylan Moses in a base alignment. They were sandwiched between outside linebackers Anfernee Jennings and Terrell Lewis.

— Offensive line coach Kyle Flood continued to mix up the combinations within the blocking front. The first team, during one period, was Alex Leatherwood at left tackle, Evan Neal at left guard, Chris Owens at center, Landon Dickerson at right guard and Jedrick Wills Jr. at right tackle. The second unit was comprised of Tanner Bowles at left tackle, Pierce Quick at left guard, Emil Ekiyor at center, Matt Womack at right guard and Tommy Brown at right tackle.

— Receiver DeVonta Smith had a protective sleeve on his right knee and appeared to be limping slightly after going through a drill.

— Freshman defensive lineman Antonio Alfano was not spotted for the third consecutive day. Stephon Wynn (ankle) was also not present.

— Punter Mike Bernier, who appeared in the last eight games last season, was seen for the first time since fall camp began. He was in shorts.

What's here and my opinion are two different things. Harping on the same thought as I've had for a while now though. The farther along they're getting in camp the more I'm convinced Dickerson is on the field. As much as I like Womack, Dickerson's a stronger player. Hell, Matt mentioned Neal being stronger than he was just a few weeks ago.

Owens and Ekiyor...I'm leaning towards Owens. But I don't know how it's going to shake out.

Storyline of the morning:

Mel Kiper and Jordan Rodgers believe Tua has an average arm for the league. The comparison was being made to Herbert.

I'm fairly confident that regardless of which 5 start the season, the same 5 won't end it. Between injuries, bad/good play, and the addition of D. Brown there will be some shuffling. But now more than ever it feels like the 2's won't just be competent, but really damn good.

Now, more than ever, setting up nicely to once again "run the damn ball."

Based on what I'm hearing Brown returning to the lineup for game five may not mean a thing. The general consensus is he's going to have a hell of a time jumping Owens or Dickerson for the RG position (if he's able to jump Ekiyor as well.)

I won't be surprised in the least if we continue to see some shuffling through the first few games. It's going to be fun to watch.

...which is still going to be based off of the passing game. It's a pass first, run second offense. To run the offense in any other manner would be a HUGE disservice to the talent on hand.

Have absolutely no idea what "disservice to the talent on hand" means in the long run. Last season the "disservice" felt a lot like our failure to beat Clemson for the NC.

Nothing will be simple about it.
Watch how simple this is.

Bama, arguably, has the best QB WR tandem in the nation in Tua and Jeudy. It has the best QB and WR corps situation in the nation.
Alabama will feature its most talented players on offense; Tua and the wide receivers.
The running game will be based off of the passing game this season just as it was last season.

Last season, when Jeudy was on the field, Alabama averaged two more yards per carry than they did when Jeudy wasn't on the field. The passing game, setting up the running game.

It can't be made simpler.

I'd like to know how many of those carries were Josh Jacobs..... 😈
