🏈 Alternative lodging in Tuscaloosa

Okay.... all the decent hotels and motels have been booked for game days since biblical times.... so... does anyone know of any alternative lodging short of a park bench? LOL

I read on some Tuscaloosa real estate sites where housing, just a stone's throw to B Denny is available for 12-month leases at dirt cheap prices, but does anyone know of a site or contact in which people rent rooms or basement apts for game days?? If I absolutely must stay at Motel 6, I guess I will... but I'd much prefer to just crash somewhere. I'm an upstanding, clean cut, nice Canadian guy.... despite my avatar (I do make-up FX). Won't be any trouble at all.
 
Having done this before, if you have a rental car you can stay on the Tuscaloosa-side of Birmingham and drive to and from. In the Hoover area you can find good hotels, restaurants, and virtrually all Interstate between your hotel and campus. I will be doing that again myself.
 
Sorry... shoulda clarified the initial post.... "an alternative place to stay if you don't drive."

Then there's also the possibility of sharing a mid-range priced hotel room with another Bama fan... as long as it doesn't turn into Trains Planes and Automobiles..
 
Yes, the hotels get booked up in advance, but folks also change their plans and those rooms open up more often than folks think... its just luck of the draw on when you call and find one open. Wouldn't hurt to check early and often if there is a hotel(s) that you were looking at staying at... never hurts to call, and don't take their website's word for it, call them. As for not driving, the Holiday Inn Express and Microtel Inn on 15th St. E are within a very short walking distance from University Mall which would allow you to catch the Gameday Shuttle which drops you off at the stadium and brings you back to the mall after the game.
 
Check E-bay. One of my friends got a hotel room for the entire weekend that was virtually on campus and he walked to the Quad for tailgating. He got if for about half the price because the people had already paid money and wanted to maintain in good standing with the hotel in order to keep their name on the list and keep the room booked. You just have to be diligent.

Okay.. will give that a shot too.

For the moment, I've booked the last room at the (don't say it...) Masters Inn, and I'm am not happy with paying $159 a night for a f'en motel of that quality (or any for that matter). But it's virtually the last place left unless you go over $200... which I wouldn't normally fret about except I'm flying from Canada and already have airfare and shuttle bus fees on the docket. But at least if I find something else in the summer I can cancel the Masters room without penalty.

If you do stay at the Masters Inn, make sure and swing by the Quik Pawn and pick up a shotgun to keep with you during your stay...
 
To be honest Flake, you have made me realize just how much people have to sacrifice to attend. It was second nature for me to suggest staying in Birmingham, and I completely understand the Columbus, Mississippi suggestion. Commuting from out of state happens every home game. At the same time, one would think that with over 100k guests expected each game that the town could find a place for them to stay. I fear that your search will be difficult.

I believe that this will be the second year in a row for you coming down. If this continues it would be in your best interests to make a new "best friend from Tuscaloosa" who won't mind you crashing on his sofa. This does not help you this year, but while you are down you could work on facing the same pain next year. (Of course you could always use you skills with FX and make someone think that they injured you...make them put you up for the night just so they don't have to pay the medical bills.)

You hit the nail on the head, mate.
Coming from from Canada, the 2-day trip adds up to over $1100.00...
$400+ hotels
$300+ flights
$100 round trip shuttle for the Buffalo airport (Canadian airports rape you big time; charging more than twice the price of anything outta Buffalo)
$100 for round trip shuttle from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa.

Then I have to buy a scalper ticket the day of the game, eat, and buy Tide goodies.... Jesus..... that's more going to be more than $1100 isn't it.

So yeah having a bro in Tuscaloosa would shave some serious cash off the trip.

Question.... last year I saw oodles of "Tickets For Sale" ads (at good prices) on the bulletin board in the Uni cafeteria. Assuming they are "student section" tickets, would I be allowed to sit there?? That would be so cool.
