There is no bigger team player on the University of Alabama football team than in reserve offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman.
During his recruitment, Bozeman agreed to delay his enrollment and take a grayshirt when Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban asked him to. Those plans had a last-minute change when a spot opened up and allowed Bozeman to report as originally planned.
Point being, Bozeman proved before he arrived on campus that heās willing to do whatās best for the team.
That loyalty was again proven this year when the 6-foot-5, 325-pounder moved from guard to center to give the offensive line depth behind starter Ryan Kelly. It turned out to be a smart move as Bozeman earned two starts at center when Kelly went down with an injury.
The Tuscaloosa News sat down with Bozeman in the postgame locker room after the SEC Championship Game.
Q: Whatās this year been like for you?
A: Itās been great. Unfortunately people go down, but somebodyās got to step up. Luckily I was prepared enough to step in and do the job.
A: Whatās your relationship like with offensive line coach Mario Cristobal and how much has he taught you?
Q: Itās ridiculous how much Iāve learned from him. Heās an amazing coach. Heās done so much for me and all my teammates. Heās just a great dude.
Q: There are rumors youāre a monster in the weight room. How much can you lift?
A: Itās been a while since we maxed, but the last time I benched they let me do 500 (pounds) as many times as I could. They stopped me at three. Iām squatting like 585.
Q: Where do you think youāll play next year?
A: Iām fine wherever. Heās going to put the best people on the field, and itās a very competitive field, so Iām going to work hard and try to get it.
Q: Have you played center before this year?
A: I have. I did a little bit in high school, but not much. And then I started in the spring and from there on I played there this season.
Q: What was the learning curve like?
A: At center you have to retain so much knowledge. You point everybodyās assignments and (middle linebackers) and everything else. Itās a lot of responsibility.
Q: How much have you leaned on and learned from starting center Ryan Kelly?
A: Ah, so much. Heās a great teacher and a great player and a great dude. Heās really helped me out a lot.
Q: Is there a position you feel more natural playing?
A: Anywhere is fine with me. Itās wherever they want to put me.
Q: How much fun has this season been?
A: So much. Itās been ridiculous, especially winning the SEC Championship and looking forward. Itās been awesome.
Q: You get a few days off, what will you do with you with your time?
A: Iām a huge hunter. I get to go home and go hunting. Iām a big deer hunter.
