šŸˆ Alabama vs. Oregon: What if, Part II?

My Pac-12 colleague, Ted Miller, has an excellent piece on what should have happened and what probably would have happened had a playoff been in effect last season and the final spot came down to Alabama and Oregon. Ted's assertion is that Oregon's resume would have been more impressive and that the Ducks would have deserved to go over Alabama, which ended up winning the 2011 national championship with a dominating 21-0 victory over previously unbeaten LSU in the BCS National Championship Game.

Really interesting hypothetical.

I think Alabama would have had a great shot at beating the Ducks. Bama had the best defense last year, if not possibly ever. Check this out: http://www.teamspeedkills.com/2012/1/12/2702175/quantifying-alabamas-brilliant-defense

I really think they could have held the Ducks down to a low score, and they would have trampled them with the run. Final score, 27-10 maybe.

The Ducks might have "deserved" to go more than Alabama, but Alabama would have beaten them in a playoff game. It's not the Tide's fault they had arguably a less high profile schedule then the Ducks. In the end the right team went on as #2 and the right team won.

Bama would've crushed Oregon. No question about that.

I look at the AU/Oregon game. Fairley was the only star on that defense and they struggled against it all night. Our offense played their worst game in quite some time that night or it wouldn't have been a 3 pt win.

Bama had what, 3 1st rounders on their defense? Couple those 3 with Upshaw, Chapman, etc. Oregon may score 10 and it world take a broken play to do it. Bama would be able to ground and pound them. The score may make it seem close but it wouldn't have felt close watching it.
